Creative Tuesdays – Around the World

Creative Tuesdays – Around the World

Around-the-World
Freehand watercolour painting of the world in a low-error map projection by Janis Cox

I mulled over the prompt from Creative Tuesdays for these two weeks. The theme is Around the World.

The watercolour was produced free-hand using a low-error map projection. I looked at globes but you could only see some of the countries; I looked at the mercator projection and countries are all skewed.

When I first heard the challenge I thought of travel. Where have I been in the world. I came up with; Canada, United States, France, Belgium, Poland, Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, Venezuela , The Czech Republic, Netherlands and Cuba.

My next thought was missions. Where have I supported people around the world? I came up with: Philippines (our child in the Philippines), Sierra Leone (we support an orphanage and are trying to help with sustainable farming), Poland (I have visited on a mission trip five times), Haiti (God led us to a mission during the time of the hurricance). As well we support our local missions and others I can’t think of.

Then I thought of the Internet and I realized how we are getting closer to one another – through blogging, Twitter, Facebook etc. Even my book, Tadeo Turtle, is now around the world – Ecuador, Poland, Kenya, Nepal, USA, Canada. And other places I don’t even know of.

So my drawing today is to represent connections we are making around the world.

I belong to a Network of Christian writers called John 316 Marketing Network. We have members from Canada, the United States, Australia, Cuba, New Zealand, Scotland, Malaysia and the Bahamas. Sorry to those I might have missed.

We read in the Gospel of Matthew:

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (Matthew 24:14, NIVUK).

And in Revelation we read:

And then I saw another angel flying in mid-air, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth – to every nation, tribe, language and people (Revelation 14:6, NIVUK).

These are exciting times. We are being connected around the world.

Please tell me in the comments where you live.

  1. Janis, I actually thought you or someone else might do something like this. I think it has a lot of meaning to you and like your thought patterns getting there. I actually, funnily enough, like that the background is rather like a constellation photo for the Hubble or something. It adds that sense of the spiritual too I guess too. So glad to ahve you on board and how exciting to see your book all over the world.

Speaking of that, do you know, my mother has LIVED in EVERY continent in the world except for Antartica? Crazy, huh? not even for missions. It was a different time back then, traveling the world for God, King and country– serving the (British) crown in various means.

    1. Michael,

I too saw the constellations and God’s creation in the background. I started wet on wet, and I actually saw countries in the patterns from the pink. It was quite exciting. Then I thought of painting the globe – but round and then we can’t see everyone, then the Mercator projection – but so out of spec. I looked up on the internet and found this interesting projection – not perfect but closer.

That is awesome that your Mom lived in every continent. Serving – love that word.

I so enjoy the challenge that CT is offering. Thank you for doing this.

      Blessings,

      Janis

  2. Going into all the world is a life-changing task and how the world needs Christ’s message of salvation brought to them through His love and peace

  3. Love seeing the children with your book how wonderful. My advance art students and I have been painting portraits for orphans in 3rd world countries as part of The Memory project. It has been such a reward experience, especially for my students.

  4. HI Janis,
It’s so exciting to see your book in various countries around the world! What an encouragement to know that the simple words of the gospel can reach so far and impact so many with such power and grace!

    1. Yes Pam,
I am excited too. I love to see Tadeo travelling around. I must tell others if they are going to visit an orphanage or school around the world to ask for a copy of my book. Simple words – that’s all we need, isn’t it?
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. Hi Janis,
Well, thinking about what you would create has paid off big time. You’ve captured the mission theme beautifully. And boy, you have been to a lot of places. You asked we I live and it’s Wasaga Beach known for the longest freshwater beach in the world. 🙂
And I am so thrilled your book has made it around the world. I love your book.

    1. Tracy

Wasaga Beach. My grandparents had a cottage on the main road, ? Mosley st? on the river. We will have to travel to see you. I want to go back to Wasaga Beach sometime. Thank you for your love of my book.
      Blessings,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
