Fuzzy Lion – Creative Tuesdays

Fuzzy Lion – Creative Tuesdays

Prompt for Creative Tuesdays Fuzzy – The definition of fuzzy: covered with short, soft hairs, fur etc.

My choice for Creative Tuesday’s prompt  is a lion. I have seen fuzzy lions as toys. My lion however is the real thing. However, if he were not as fierce, I think you could find him to be fuzzy on your face particularly around the whiskers.

Watercolour – Janis Cox @2016

My picture is done in watercolour. I used some Chinese white for the whiskers.

The lion is a symbol of power, might and is ferocious. (click to tweet)

Lion is used as a synonym for God.

Amos 3:8

The lion has roared—
    who will not fear?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
    who can but prophesy?

A lion is also described as bold. I like that. Determined. I think we need to be bold as a lion.

Proverbs 28:1

The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

The lion is also used to symbolize Satan.

1 Peter 5:8

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

That reminded me of a dream I had of two lions fighting a ferocious battle. I wrote a blog post for Creative Tuesdays with the prompt “dreams” and tell about my dream of the lions.

One of my favourite stories is The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe (actually all of the Narnia series). The lion in Narnia is an allegory for Jesus. That lion the kids were able to get close to and actually touch.

And of course, there is the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz and Dorothy cuddled this fuzzy lion for much of the story.

I painted a lion in my Bible to help me memorize  Proverbs 28:1.

  1. Such a handsome lion and so beautifully painted Janis. Although fierce hunters, they are definately fuzzy around the face. Love the transparent lion you have painted in your bible, the words underneath give it real depth.

    1. Thank you Linda,
I have become more comfortable painting in my Bible. I love seeing the pictures that God gives me. Thanks for the compliments.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  2. Yes, I totally remember your write up on your dream abou the two lions and, absolutely, this works for fuzzy. A great interpretation. It’s beautifully painted, Janis. He is very worthy for sure. 🙂 Well done. Love your interpretation!

    1. Thanks Michael,
I appreciate your words and your memory. I have to admit when you first said, “fuzzy” I thought of a peach. But after many days of mulling over the word God brought me to see the lion and I felt his fur and it was fuzzy. Loving CT!!!
      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. Thanks Lissa,
I love the way when we paint we don’t have to paint exactly what we see – we can close our eyes and visualize. I love trying new things too.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. Outstanding! I thought immediately of Asland from Chron. of Narnia. You do beautiful lions as I have seen many of your takes on this magnificent animal. I love the corolation with the Bibical “Lion” and reference to the Lord. Blessings..

btw ~ I have two things in my favor as I stand at my kitchen counter to paint. 1. I’m short. 2. The counter is high. Win-Win.

    1. Wanda,
Thank you. I must admit I do love lions – and having that dream made it even more important. I will be working on a children’s colouring book – animals of course with scriptures. And yes I can see how you could paint standing up. I can’t.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  4. The Chinese White Paint looks really great against the Watercolors. And Lions are super cute! Perfectly fuzzy manes for this theme (-: Wonderful work.

    1. Donna,
I don’t use Chinese white very often. I couldn’t seem to figure out how to make the whiskers without it. Unless I had used masquing fluid first – I think that might have worked. Thanks for your kind words.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. I agree with Christine, a beautiful take on the theme. And the “mane” lion and the bible journal lion are wonderfully displayed, Janis. And thank you for including all the references to the different types of lions. Glad I put my trust in the “MAIN” lion … Jesus. 🙂

    1. Tracy,
Yes our main “Lion” is Jesus. Interesting the lion is also represented in scripture as Satan. So we need to be aware and follow the right lion. Thank you for your comments.
      Blessings
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
