5 Tips to Live with Him – Word of God Speak Linkup

Today I want to bring you up-to-date with what I have learned in the past while. Here are 5 tips to live with Him.

live with Him

1. Go to a Conference

I am back from my trip out to Alberta. The first reason for going was the Inscribe Fellowship Fall Conference in Edmonton. What a delightful time! We had fabulous speakers with so many wonderful ideas. Linda Hall gave our plenary talks and following her journey in her writing career was fascinating. Listening to how she listens to God and knows when it is time to change and not be afraid of that change. Embracing the change. We all need to be ready to do that when God calls. I was grateful to win the art award for a painting in my book The Kingdom of Thrim. We had a surprise visit from Janette Oke to present the new Janette Oke award.

This conference is a wonderful way to live with Him.

2. Embrace what God leads you to do

The other reason I went out west was to meet with my publisher, Colleen McCubbin of Siretona Creative. We had a splendid time as well! At first we thought I would do book signings but God had a different plan. At the last minute we were open to author visits in Christian schools in Calgary. I haven’t had so much fun except when my grandchildren visit. I met and talked to 12 classes in three different schools. I read my new story, The Kingdom of Thrim, and answered questions from the students. Then I taught them a scripture using a unique action method. They had a great time and learned the scripture.

I am learning to live with Him.

3. Go on a retreat

Following my 9 days of travel, I came home and turned around to go to a women’s retreat in our county run by the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. The facilitator was Sandy Stevens from Embrace The Bride. Not only is she a dynamic speaker, she is so in tune with the Lord she had everyone reaching to listen to Him. I can say I believe everyone was touched by the Holy Spirit and came away changed and revived.

What an eye opener – a fantastic way to learn to live with Him.

4. Don’t be afraid to try new things

And one other marvellous thing that has happened in the last month is – I can hear. Yes finally the doctors along with the audiologist have prescribed hearing aids. What a difference it has made in my life. I can hear people speaking in church, in small groups, at the conference, movies and my husband. The last one was very important. Our communication was becoming a source of frustration for both of us as I couldn’t hear him and he had no patience with me.

Recent research has suggested that the brains of people with hearing loss shrink faster than those of their peers whose hearing has not diminished (Page 9, Listen to Your Ears, Cheryl Morehouse).

I want to stay functional mentally as long as possible. If you think you might have a hearing problem get checked out. Usually consultation is free. And in Canada we get a $1000 grant every 5 years.

5. Read wonderful writings of saints – my favourite is Oswald Chambers

His words have touched my soul and my heart in the past few days. Everything he has said has confirmed what I learned at our women’s retreat.

If you are in a valley right now – take heart.

Live with Him

It is in the sphere of humiliation that we find our true worth to God, that is where our faithfulness is revealed. Most of us can do things if we are always at the heroic pitch because of the natural selfishness of our hearts, but God want us at the drab commonplace pitch, where we live in the valley according to our personal relationship to Him (Oswald Chambers October 2 My Utmost for His Highest).

And if you want to totally be with Him and be in His will remember these words.

We need to know Him to live with Him. (tweet this)

We can ever remain powerless, as were the disciples, by trying to do God’s work not in concentration on His power, but by ideas drawn from our own temperament. We slander God by our very eagerness to work for Him without knowing Him (Oswald Chambers, October 3, My Utmost for His Highest).

For those who have had a vision but it doesn’t seem to be coming together.

It is when we are in the valley, where we prove whether we will be the choice ones, that most of us turn back. … are we willing to have the vision “batter’d to shape and use” by God? The batterings always come in commonplace ways and through commonplace people (Oswald Chambers October 4, My Utmost for His Highest).

  1. My husband and I just came back from a conference myself. We came back feeling refreshed and built up in the Lord. We saw several old friends, met with a mentor, and came back with so many tools to use in our counseling ministry.

Congratulations on your art award and thanks for hosting!

  2. Your suggestions are great, but most of all, thank you for those quotes from Chambers! Also, I’m so glad for you about the hearing aids and the award! Congratulations!

  3. Such a joy to read and see how God is working in your life! It makes me glad to see that you are touching the lives of children that need to know the Lord.

I love to connect with you.
