Refine: Five Minute Fridays

Refine: Five Minute Fridays

The definition of refine: to free (something, such as metal, sugar, or oil) from impurities or unwanted material.

refine

I am joining Kate Motaung today for 5 Minute Fridays. Just 5 minutes to write my thoughts on the word refine.

My heart and mind have been grappling with someone’s illness. It has been baffling doctors and her family. As a quick recap: she had suddenly become ill in November and just couldn’t seem to get better. Instead she was getting worse until she was hospitalized the day after Christmas. The local hospital after 2 weeks could find nothing wrong so she was transferred to a city hospital where she has been for the past 2 weeks. They can’t seem to find anything “wrong”. They have upped her medications and lowered her medications. She has been on IV fluids.

All of this is finally pointing to chronic carbon monoxide poisoning. But the doctors and the toxicity man can’t believe it. Until today – maybe they will understand when they realize that the furnace in the house was emitting 2300ppm instead of 50ppm of CO. Ever since the house was closed up in November – in other words the heat came on and the windows were closed – she got sick.

There must still be some carbon monoxide floating around in her system and compromising her oxygen flow.

She needs to have help to refine her oxygen flow to make her healthy again.

They have considered  hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT).  They are still not sure if the doctors agree. But hopefully something is figured out. Prayer teams have been praying.

There is an unwanted material inside so we are praying that the Lord will refine her body to get rid of that toxic substance. We want her free from those impurities.

Praising God that He is able to free us from our sin. He can purify us through the blood of Jesus. Now that’s refinement, isn’t it?

We need to have help to refine our bodies to make us healthy again – thank You, Jesus. (click to tweet)

Psalm 12:6

The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.

1 Peter 1:7

so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Certainly all those concerned have been tested with fire. Refined to trust in the Lord. This quote has made me think.

Do I place my faith in books and prayers or other joys in my life? Or have I placed my confidence in God Himself, not in His blessings? ~ Oswald Chambers – My Utmost for His Highest

Are you being refined by Christ? I know I am.

  1. Thinking of when Jesus comes back and how the refining of our faith will result in His Glory (I Peter 1:7). Yes, I want that. Thank you for sharing this, Janis. Thinking of your neighbour and praying for her body to be refined and purified as well.

  2. I’m so accustomed to a Saturday morning visit here, that my fingers just typed in the address, and it’s good to hear your thoughts. The phrase that came to my mind as I read is “The Refiner’s Fire.” Elisabeth Elliot said once, “Do you suppose that there’s a refining fire that isn’t too hot?” — meaning, of course, that when God does His work, it can be a bit uncomfortable.

So glad that you’ve had the time and opportunity to join the 5 Minute Friday community!

Trusting that all is well with you in the lovely southwest!

  3. So thankful the blood of Jesus is the best purifying agent of all, and grateful he gives us pictures in our lives of this and other truths. I’ll keep your loved one’s needs in my prayers, and that God will do great things through this situation. ~ your FMF neighbor

I love to connect with you.
