Review - Hope Stream Radio

Since October 31, I have studied one scripture each week using the SIMPLE Method of Bible Study.  I have tried to memorize that scripture. I think we have done 11 scriptures. I needed to stop and take stock.

Which ones did I study? Where did I study them from? Can I remember?

Honestly the scriptures kept coming. God kept bringing them to me. They came from Hebrews, Luke, John, Romans, 2 Corinthians, Isaiah, 1 Peter.

To remember. It’s important. God talks about that in scripture. (tweet this)

Of course the best example is what we now call communion – to remember to obey Christ at all times. “This do in remembrance of me (Luke 22:19)

Chuck Swindoll wrote,

I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified (Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life [Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1994], p. 61).

Here are the show notes from my broadcast on Hope Stream Radio.

This has been quite a week. I’m sure you’ve had them too. I am grateful that God showed me how to slow down my pace this week as other things have filled up my time.

Listening to God has become my top priority. Before taking on any additional projects I sit with Him and hear what He says. If I sense a strong YES I will say yes too. If I sense a hesitancy in my spirit – then I say, maybe. If I sense a big NO, then I will say no.

On my blog this week I knew I had to stop studying and memorizing a new verse for this week. I knew it was time for a review.

Review is important in our lives.

Whether we sit down and review what we are to do today; or look at our year and see what were the challenges and what were the successes; or before we go to bed review what went on during the day – review is important.

God talks about remembering many times in Scriptures. This year I have begun a two-year study of reading through the Bible. I am thoroughly enjoying reading through Genesis. Those stories are starting to become more real to me every time I read them. I also noted that Abraham in his travels always erected a remembrance to God, and named each one.

This week there are three scriptures I am reviewing from my study:

John 1:14 I believe this scripture is crucial to our understanding of the incarnation.

And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only Son who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I wanted to commit this to memory so that I could say – He made His dwelling among us. And because of His sacrifice He made His dwelling in us when we have said Yes to following Him.

John 3:5

Jesus answered, “No one can enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

I know personally how I felt when I accepted Jesus. Certainly His Spirit worked in me. And when I was baptized I felt a different elation, a joy of submission and acceptance.

The third one I am reviewing this week is:

2 Corinthians 9:8 This is also my verse for this year.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that you may in all things and at all times and having everything you need, you will abound in every good work.

My Word for this year is abound. This verse reminds me that God is behind everything. He will give me everything I need for His purposes.

In order for God to be known I must break free of my wall of insecurity – the introvert me. I must allow Him to let me burst forth – ABOUND- to show His Light to the world.

Podcasting for Hope Stream Radio has allowed me to do some breaking forth. I thank you for listening to my podcast.

Have you taken time to review your year, your week, your day? If not, stop now and see where you are headed. Is there something you need to change? Are you heading in the direction that God is calling you?

May I pray for you and me?

Father, we need time to review and remember. Help us to stop, and take stock of our lives. Help us to review our days, our weeks and our years. As we review help us to hear Your words to us. Are we to move forward, stay still or change direction? Help us too learn Your Word – help us to dig into scripture, ask You questions, and hear You speak. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Until next time take a look at your life, your day, your week, your year – review, talk to God and be in the Word.

  1. I enjoyed your post very much. I am reviewing this past year and season. Hopefully I will get back to blogging. I don’t seem to have the energy. Getting older is not always easy. However, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we could ask or think!!!! Thank you. Rose Harmer
