Safe: Five Minute Fridays

Safe: Five Minute Fridays

Our word from Five Minute Fridays is SAFE. We have 5 minutes to write what that word means to us. Here goes. 5,4,3,2,1, – go

safe

Once again it’s been an incredible week. Learning so much. My second children’s book, The Kingdom of Thrim, is now on Amazon with NO shipping. I have changed my publisher to Creativity Press. So drop over and see the new edition. If you encounter any problems please contact me at Janis.

Safe – It’s funny, because just this week I had a conversation with someone I am working with because I had written the following about Psalm 119:3 which says:

That’s right—you don’t go off on your own;
you walk straight along the road he set (The Message).

I wrote: The Psalmist can ask for help because he has been blameless. God sent His one and only Son Jesus to save us from our sins! With Him we can be blameless because of His grace.

The one who was born of God – Jesus – will keep us safe.

My friend came back and said: “I believe we think that believing in Jesus will protect us from bad things happening to us and I don’t think that is based on scripture.”

My point was that Jesus does keep us safe – safe from all alarms.

I don’t mean protecting us from everything that might happen because I know that some bad things happen. I mean when we are with Jesus we know He is always there to comfort us – we are safe in His arms. – through all alarms.

I love the old hymn.

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
I have peace complete with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!

I know I have nothing to fear or dread as I am safe and secure in Jesus’ arms. May you feel that peace and security too.

However, I read this from Mark Batterson.

“Jesus didn’t die to keep us safe. He died to make us dangerous. Faithfulness is not holding the fort. It’s storming the gates of hell. The will of God is not an insurance plan. It’s a daring plan. The complete surrender of your life to the cause of Christ isn’t radical. It’s normal. It’s time to quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. It’s time to go all in and all out for the All in All. Pack your coffin!”

Jesus didn’t die to keep us safe. He died to make us dangerous. (Click to tweet)

What are your thoughts? Does Jesus keep us safe? What is safety to you?

Living our lives is not playing it safe but feeling safe and secure in our faith with Jesus. (click to tweet)

It is boldly going where God tells us to go.

Blessings,

Janis

  1. I grew up singing that hymn – it’s one of my favorites, hands down.

And this – “… when we are with Jesus we know He is always there to comfort us – we are safe in His arms. – through all alarms.” I know this from personal experience, and I’m so thankful I have that knowledge to rest on when the alarms start ringing again.

Also visiting from Five Minute Friday.

  2. I have sung that song many times and it’s so comforting. Yes, we may not be kept from danger, but we are safe in His arms knowing He will go with us through good and bad times. Blessings to you, Janis!

I love to connect with you.
