Bible painting or journalling – what is it?

Bible painting

I posted this a year ago. I have continued to work on my Bible painting/journalling. Check out my Bible Journalling Page for more scriptures and pictures. I now have a link in my menu for Bible Journalling. Check it out. Join us on Facebook Word of God Speak.

I use watercolour pencils and felt pens and Micron pens.

Here is the post:

Bible painting is something new to me.

I would like to show you this week some of the watercolour paintings I have done in my Bible. I find, being a visual person, Bible painting helps solidify the scriptures in my mind.

It’s time for a review. I have studied, painted and memorized a number of scriptures since we started Word of God Speak. Each week I would use the SIMPLE method of Bible study to hear what God was telling me.

Here is a quick review with the scripture, my Bible journalling page, and my thoughts for each scripture. I am only doing a few of them this week. Next time I will show you new ones. Review is important. It’s time to go back and see what I have learned.

If you haven’t been following you can click on the link to see my thoughts of each scripture.

My Bible Painting

2 Corinthians 9:8  Have you found one word for 2016?

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9-8 Bible Painting

What I learned from 2 Corinthians 9:8:

In order for God to be known I must break free of my wall of insecurity – the introvert me. I must allow Him to let me burst forth – ABOUND- to show His Light to the world.

John 1:14   What does it mean God came down?

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1-14 Bible Painting

What I learned from John 1:14:

I know God is leading me somewhere. Therefore, I will continue to watch where He leads. We are called to look after those who cannot look after themselves.

John 3:5    How to accept God’s Grace

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

John 3-5 - Bible Painting

What I learned from John 3:5:

I thought, “What does it take for the Spirit to move in the hearts of men? in my family? in my friends? I remember before I took that leap of faith, being prideful, and stubborn. So it takes the power of the Holy Spirit to break through our tough skin.

Unseen Where are you looking?

Unseen  Where are you looking? – Word of God Speak Linkup

This has been another busy week – I have been reviewing the 6 scriptures we have had posted last week and the week before. This week we look at 3 more. Every one of them point to the unseen, to eternity.

Time - God - Unseen

2 Corinthians 4:17-18

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Time seemed very important to me for this scripture. I love the “light and momentary troubles”. Even in our most dire circumstances, in light of eternity, this would be negligible. Our troubles may seem heavy and long when we must endure them. I find it interesting that these words make us see the difference. Time here on earth is temporary. What we can’t see but hear about in scripture is for ever. Let’s focus on the unseen.

Focus on the unseen. (Tweet this)

2 corinthians 4-17-18

Isaiah 40:8

The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”

Time again is the focus. The things of this world are temporary. God is forever. We look towards what is unseen instead of what we see. I love that.

Isaiah-40-8-web

Hebrews 1:10-13

In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
 You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.

I did not plan it this way. But this one has to do with TIME as well. Everything we see is perishing. God remains the same. Praising God we will not perish if we give our lives to Jesus. We will have eternal life.

Again look to the unseen.

Do you want to learn how to do Bible painting? Some people call this Bible Journaling. I hope today to show you it is not as intimidating as it sounds. Stick with me and I will try to show you why.

I love to do Bible painting. (tweet this)

We will continue to review the scriptures we have studied. Last week I found the review helpful. I hope you did too.

Bible painting - memorizing scripture

When I have a word, thought or picture to go with a scripture I am more likely to remember it. (tweet this)

I am trying to type the words in this blog rather than cut and paste. I find cutting and pasting does not help me to learn the scripture.

And of course painting – this helps solidify where in the Bible the scripture comes and as I paint I repeat the words. The pictures are in my mind.

This week we will look at my Bible painting for three scriptures (you can click on the links to find my thoughts and study for each scripture:

Romans 15:13 – How can we find peace this Christmas?

Bible painting Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My life application:

I see a revival, a passion for hope, love, joy and peace in this world.

Nothing can stop God from moving in His people – NO THING.

Luke 11:28  Word of God Speak (my first one)

Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey it.

Bible painting - Hebrews 11:28

My life application:

So OBEY has been the word I heard clearly today.

Hebrews 4:12 – Word of God Speak – Cut to the Quick

For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Bible painting Hebrews 4:12

My life application:

I think what I am learning is that the Holy Spirit makes God’s Word come alive. Any passage will help me with instruction or correction. And God will ensure that he leads me to the passage I need to study for that day.

Tips for being able to do Bible painting.

  1. Outline first in pencil.
  2. Then use micron pens. I use number 01.Bible painting
  3. Use watercolour pencils to colour in where you want colour.
  4.  Here is a quick post that explains a watercolour pencil technique.
  5. Use water after you have finished with the watercolour pencils. A tiny bit goes a long way.

I would love to see your results. The whole idea is to learn scripture. I purchased Bibles from the thrift store when I started, before I purchased my journaling Bible. They work well. I also keep forgetting to add the date to the page when I paint.

Have you tried this before? What were your thoughts? Did you find any problems? Do you have questions? I would love to hear from you.
