Who Am I? – Creative Tuesdays

The prompt this week at Creative Tuesdays is Meet Me. I will try to show you the answer to “Who Am I?”

Who Am I?
Meet Me – Watercolour Pencil – 2016

The idea here is to list a few items you like and dislike or some variation thereof (by Creative Tuesdays).

I struggled with this one for the last two weeks and finally worked on it yesterday under the title, Who Am I? I don’t like portraits and doing a self-portrait was even harder. I used a micron pen 01 and watercolour pencil and a light weight paper. Next time I would use heavier paper.

That of course reminded me of Jesus asking the disciples, “who am I?”,

“Who do people say I am?” …

[And then], “Who do you say I am (Mark 8:27-29, NIV)?”

As I have been reading through the scriptures for this time of Lent, this question keeps coming up. Who is Jesus? The religious leaders are trying to discredit Jesus. They want to keep the status quo. They want to keep their power. So they ask Jesus all sorts of questions to trap Him. Here are two cases.

Case One:

On Saturday at Word of God Speak we looked at Mark 11:27-33

The religious leaders are trying to trap Jesus. They really are asking Who He is:

“By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you authority to do this?”

Case Two:

On Sunday at church we looked at Mark 12:13-17.

Here they are trying to trap Jesus again by asking about whether the Jewish people should pay tax to Caesar.

Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

In the first case Jesus will not give an answer because the leaders couldn’t answer His question.

Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

In the second case Jesus gave a divinely inspired answer.

Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

I find it interesting that the leaders of the Jewish people couldn’t see Jesus as God’s Son – the Christ. They were blinded by their arrogance and their wish for power and control.

Sometimes I forget that I have let Jesus be in control of my life and I try to wrestle control back from Him. Thank goodness I study His Word every day to remind me that He is in control.

Pastor Thiemke said on Sunday:

We must give to God what is rightfully His – our entire life. (tweet this)

If you haven’t met my Jesus I would love to tell you more about Him. Email me anytime and we can talk.

  1. Hi Janis,
Your portrait is great and it was fun reading about your likes and dislikes..especially since we have similarities. I hope you have a blessed weekend!

  2. Your “meet me” is great, Janis. I told M just how much you really look like…well, you! 🙂 Hee

    1. Alexandra,
Thank you for stopping by. I laughed when you said I looked like – me. This was a new experience in painting a portrait – using micron pens and pencil crayons.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. Janis, I love your self-portrait. The glasses are perfect and comparing it to your sidebar photo, it’s fabulous. Thank you for sharing about your likes and dislikes…I’m getting to know you better. All of the your likes, I wasn’t surprised about. Keep on for the Lord. 🙂

    1. Tracy – thank you so much. I didn’t see yours – did you not get time to do it? We must get together this summer. We come back in April – it will be on my list of things to do for sure.
      Blessings
      Janis

    1. Linda,
Very observant about the lines to the cross. Did you notice the Rock with Jesus on it – our Cornerstone. Pickle ball is played on 1/4 the size of a tennis court. It uses a whiffle ball and paddles. Then you play like pingpong – sort of. It’s lots of fun.
      Blessings

  4. Great job with your drawing. How wonderful is that that you’ve taken up tap dancing?! I didn’t realise you ate so healthy as well. Are you perhaps SDA?

    1. Michael,
Thanks. I enjoyed looking into this and doing a self-portrait. I have always loved to dance but never took any lessons. So there was an opportunity to try tap dancing here in AZ. It took me a few years to relax and enjoy it as I wanted to get it right. The teacher said I was so stiff at first – even to clenching my palms! Now I have so much fun. I had to look up SDA – so I’m not. I have some food allergies and when I heard how much sugar and grains are hurting our bodies hubby and I both started eating paleo. He lost 40 pounds (which he could never do before) without changing his exercise at all. We now search out organic foods and I think are much healthier.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. Putting data into a spreadsheet and routine are definitely dislikes I can relate to, and I too love to paint, create things, and work with kids/the students I teach. It’s great to see your self-portrait work I love this style of illustration (-: A+ job!

    1. Thanks Donna,
We have a lot in common. I love working with kids and certainly writing and painting are my favourite activities. I don’t like anything repetitive.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  6. Janis Your portait is really good, and your lists are very interesting. We have cousins that are totally into pickle ball.

As Christine mentioned you use every opportunity to share your faith. I was wondering if you manage several blogs or is this your main one?

On Sunday’s I share my thoughts on Spiritual matter, Scripture or personal reflections on my life with Christ.

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Wanda,
Thank you. This is the only blog I run. I do have Facebook pages and groups. I run a linkup on the weekend for faith-based posts. Please add your link any time. I only ask you get to know the others by clicking and commenting on their posts.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  7. I guess I’m not like you as I do like to keep things neat and tidy and I don’t tap dance either.

it’s fun to read about you. have a lovely day.

    1. Lissa,
I didn’t try tap dancing until I turned 60. And I guess I like neat and tidy – I just can’t seem to keep it that way. But I do have to tidy up every few days or I would be buried under projects.
      blessings,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
