ARE WE BOUND TO JESUS?

Are We Bound to Jesus?

by Mary Haskett

Recently my special friend and I discussed the turmoil in the lives of young people today, including members of our own families. She had read Liberty Savard’s book  Shattering Your Strongholds and she loaned her copy to me. I’ve lost count the number of books I’ve read on spiritual warfare, but there is always something new to be explored in God’s Word, to be savored and reflected upon.

Ms. Savard delves into many aspects of strongholds and how to pray about them. But the point she makes about binding ourselves to our Saviour, gives an in-depth revelation, at least to me, on that specific issue.

I read with a new perspective some familiar Scriptures that instruct us to have the mind of Jesus Christ. In a sense we must bind our minds to His and we have Scriptures to back up this truth:

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:5 KJV).

Then in Proverbs 3:3, we are told to bind mercy and truth, to place them on our hearts and of course these are attributes of our Dear Lord. Proverbs 6:21 and Proverbs 7:3 urge us likewise.

It’s not that we boast or puff ourselves up when we realize we can have the mind of Christ, as Paul writes:

“Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” (Philippians 2:3 KJV).

And at the end of chapter 2 in 1st Corinthians Paul writes;

“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”

So it’s with humility and grateful hearts we recognize the privilege and invitation to bind our minds, our thinking  to Jesus and to be at one with Him when we pray.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I confess that sometimes when I pray my mind wanders. Help me to dispel that and fix and bind my heart to Yours.
