A Long Distance Hug

I hadn’t seen him in years. Life had taken us to different geographical locations but many of our life journeys had common themes. I knew that from updates on Facebook.
He threw his arms around me and held on. I can’t remember the last time I received a hug like that. It felt good to be loved.
After the visit, it occurred to me—my prayers for others are like that embrace. My arms are tightly around them, holding on, wanting God’s blessing for them. Even those I know only by name and sometimes maybe a photo, become close friends that I hurt, weep and rejoice with. The Bible declares love as one of the most important things a believer can give. Yet, too often I get bogged down with day to day issues and forget to love those around me much less those beyond my daily activities. My prayer is that I can love as Christ loves.
How would the body of Christ change if loving others became their main goal?
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1).
