Be Wise How You live – #WOGSlinkup

It’s been quite the week. We had a wonderful sermon by Rev. Ron Mahler, author of 3 books. His sermon talked about how to be wise as a Christian.

BE wise

The scripture I chose to concentrate on is:

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise (Ephesians 5:15, NIV).

As I studied this passage using  the S.I.M.P.L.E. Bible Study Method, I looked at the word “then”. Paul was referring to the passages before about being in the light and not darkness.

I thought about the total way of living:

Peace, kindness, outreach, help, humility, giving selflessly, changing with the Spirit, listening to the Spirit.

Ron helped me see how to live wisely:

  1. Train hard and study well (be in God’s word, pray and worship)
  2. Run our lives well. Watch out for deception that so easily creeps into our daily lives from the world. Stand against it. Listen to God speak to us so we can make wise choices.
  3. Know God’s Will –  First we read the Bible.  I also have read two books that are helping me find my way with God’s help. The Art of Work by Jeff Goins (he has a new program going on Facebook – a book study), and Living Forward by Michael Hyatt.
  4. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. We must decide which power to submit to. What influences your life? Let the Holy Spirit have more of us.

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is to do nothing (Edmund Burke).

What is holding us back? Find it and repent.

Check your language and make sure you are only using edifying words, listening to good songs and have a Christ-like attitude.

Submit to others. Show grace and humility. Get rid of ourselves.

Run this Christian race full out and when we enter heaven we will have no regrets.

Prayer:

Lord help us spend more time in Your Word. Help us to stop and listen to Your voice. Help us to keep calm and full of Your Spirit in all situations. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. Wisdom, it’s so important and would keep us from so many set backs and consequences! But somehow our pride often makes us think our way is better instead of trusting the wisdom God has revealed in His Word. Thanks for hosting again this week, Janis.

  2. Janis, I so enjoyed that you shared books you have found helpful. I, too, pray for wisdom and discernment often as I find I am in need of both to live each day pleasing to Him. Have a blessed Sunday!

  3. I am interested in the material from Jeff Goins and Micheal Hyatt you mentioned. Writer friends have recommended them, but I wasn’t sure if their writings were conducive both with writing and maintaining spiritual priorities.

  4. Janice I love the quote from Edmund Burke. My hubby walked outside one day this week and an owl was on top of our house and two more across the road. Was too dark for a picture.

    1. Thanks. I have seen owls when we winter in Arizona and have a few pictures stored somewhere. But this one is from Pablo. The quote came from a sermon last Sunday and I loved it too. Let’s continue to do something for our King.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. Thanks for unpacking this great verse, Janis. I’m taking away the truth the the way I live will demonstrate whether or not I have godly wisdom, and the godly wisdom will inform the way I live. Prayer for wisdom is one of my most frequent requests.

May you have wisdom as you enter this new phase in the “birth” of your book.

    1. Michele,
I found this verse fascinating. The minister helped me too see more from it. Praying for wisdom with time in the next few months.
      Blessings,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
