Creative Saturdays – Toothbrush Tadeo Turtle

Creative Saturdays – Toothbrush Tadeo Turtle

Today I would like to show you how to make a painting using a toothbrush. Another term for this is spatter painting.

Spatter Painting - tadeo turtle

Materials:

1. Paper
2. Paint – tempera or watercolour
3. Brush
4. Toothbrush
5. Scissors
6. Cardboard or stock paper
7. Water

Instructions:

Draw your object – I chose a turtle.

Draw your object

Cut out the object and place it on a piece of paper.

Toothbrush-8

Mix up your paint. Stick with the three primary colours: blue, yellow and red.

Tape the object to the paper.

Using a toothbrush spray the paint onto the paper.

Toothbrush-4

Move the paint around. Twist the paper in all directions – any wet paint will run to make interesting patterns.

Toothbrush-3

When you are finished take off the stencil. At this point you can leave the stencil as is or you can paint it. I chose to paint it.

Toothbrush-2

As you can see I did not have the stencil firmly in place. If you want crisp lines ensure that the stencil is tacked down better than I did.

The finished product.

    1. Tammy,
I will visit you and would love to see your technique. I have used my paintbrush for spattering before – but haven’t used a toothbrush for this technique for a long time.

  1. This is a beautiful technique – I often wondered how artists achieve this look in illustrations! Visiting from Crafty Moms Share.

I love to connect with you.
