Once again I am joining Scribble Picnic with the word – Fairies.
I’m thinking imagination – when I think of fairies. I loved Grimm’s Fairy Tales when I was little. I remember sitting close to my Dad while he would read the stories. Yes they were scary but there was always good that came through.
I love stories of redemption – of caring, or sharing or change.
I loved being close to my Dad listening to the stories. He kept me safe.
A great author friend of mine, Jeff Goins writes about Why We Love Fairy Tales.
Being able to fly – I used to have dreams I could fly – through the roof and up through the sky. Conquering giants. Fighting dragons. I loved the Harry Potter first books and movies – until they got too dark for me.
My story of The Kingdom of Thrim is a type of fairy tale. It’s based on a doll maker who wants more than he has – he takes off with out asking friends or God. He just goes. Hasty decisions are not ones thought through carefully.
Fairies remind me of The Wizard of Oz – one of the best movies by far. I have seen it zillions of times. My sister and I would sing the songs, act like the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man. We would be the good witch and the bad one. We would sing our way through the dark forest.
I believe in angels. I let my imagination soar so I can picture a world of love, joy, no sorrow or pain.
Maybe my next children’s book will be about a fairy who travels to a new world to learn about love, acceptance, joy and peace. (tweet this)
I like what C.S. Lewis says: “Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”
I think all the Scribble Picnic people know that their imaginations and let us see things beyond the black and white, beyond reality here. I can’t wait to see the pictures this week of Fairies. Join us.

That’s funny because that’s what I said to myself when I saw the prompt. I remember saying it over and over as a kid. Great that we understand there is a supernatural and it is real.

Janis, this is a lovely fairy village. I think the houses are so full of fun and whimsy. You sure did put a lot of detail into it. And again, I love seeing the stages and how it really came to life!
Thank you Lorraine. First time for this type of detail at Scribble Picnic. My new art work in a book for caregivers and people with dementia – is more detailed. I tried to remember to take a scan every time I reached a certain point.

What busy and colorful lives these fairies have! Ah–I realize now the theme was fairies, not fairy–so you and a few others in the link-up get an A for careful reading! 🙂
That’s funny because I did go back to the prompt a couple of times to check whether it was fairy or fairies. That’s my hope in the story I write that they are busy exciting and colourful creatures with lots of joy.

That’s a really wonderful write-up, Janis to accompany your lovely, detailed piece. I love those funy lil houses and even a fairy pushing a pram, which is actually the first time I’ve ever seen that in art. Great imagination and those wispy clouds are darling too. The stories sound good too. I need to read that link (later). Totally love what CS Lewis wrote–such brilliance there and talk about imagination with his wondrous yet deep Narnia books. Never seen or read any Harry Potter but of course do know OZ which never really was my cup of tea but know so many people, like Alex, who loved it just like you. For it’s time, it’s incredibly done.

You have been the catalyst to spur my imagination with Scribblepicnic. I am so excited. We also spent 2 days in Disney Land last week so that helped my imagination along. I loved loved the Narnia books – read them to my kids at school, along with The Secret Garden, another favourite. Not sure where the baby came from but I guess I will need to make Daddy fairies too. Can you see that with a beard?

This whole prompt stirred my imagination. Actually joining Scribble Picnic has been exciting as I try to see where I am led in my painting. We need to return to our childhood. After spending a few days at Disney my imagination has been soaring.

It looks like we all had fun with this theme, nice work Janis! I also loved reading all the fairy tales as a child so this theme got me thinking on those times. I also wanted to fly but that was more thanks to Mary Poppins, lol.

You can tell I had fun? I did. Every day I would do a little more work on it. And remembering the fairy tales of my childhood – exciting. I wanted to fly because of Peter Pan – but certainly felt similarly with Mary Poppins.

Wonderful take on the fairy theme, Janis! Cute fairies and I love that wonky house with the ladder. Nice touch! I remember loving Enid Blyton and Hans Christian Andersen story books as a child and my own kids enjoyed them too. 🙂
