God’s Timing – #WordofGodSpeak Linkup

I really like the way the Lord shows me which passage to study. Today’s came from a list of 50 Scriptures to memorize by Sheila Gregoire.  I was searching for scripture for the Vacation Bible School I am running this summer in our town. Last week I did the same thing. This week I look at God’s timing.

Once again I used the S.I.M.P.L.E. Bible Study Method to study this verse.

S – Say the passage out loud: Check other versions.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9, NIV).

God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change (2 Peter 3:9, The Message).

I – Interpretation – Check footnotes, references and commentaries. Find out all you can about the passage. When? Where? Why?

I underlined the words that seemed important to me.

not slow, promise, patient, not wanting anyone to perish, everyone to come to repentance.

Peter was written prior to AD68. This verse is in a passage about the Lord’s return. It is preceded by the words:

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

That is God’s timing.

God's Timing

Here are some other verses to look up:

Habbakuk 2:3 – revelation awaits an appointed time.. though it will linger, wait for it.
Hebrews 10:37 – for in just a little while .. righteous ones live by faith
Romans 2:4 – God has kindness, tolerance and patience
1 Titus 2:4 – God wants all men to be saved and come to knowledge of the truth
Revelation 2:21 – given time to repent

M- Make a list of thoughts, questions and ideas.

This verse follows nicely from last week’s about knocking on the door. Do we hear? Are we listening?

God’s plan is for everyone to come to truth and be saved. (tweet this)

God’s timing is perfect. We are to learn patience in the waiting, too. Have faith.

P- Pray for God’s Guidance This is a silent time of prayer, listening to God Speak. When you have finished writing all your thoughts, questions and ideas then take time for prayer.

L- Life Application – Write down what you heard God speak (no matter how different from your own thoughts previously).

Thank You Lord for leading me to see the following:

  1. Don’t dwell on the forest – all the future tasks, the ideas, the todo list.
  2. Dwell in the moment of what I am doing.
  3. Don’t be pulled away from my relationship with Jesus. Focus on Him and He will show me each tree to tackle.
  4. Work on looking and working at only 5 tasks at a time for a day.
  5. God has everything under control. Rest in Him.

Then I heard this song. Ten Thousand Reasons by Matt Redman.

Don’t you love these words:

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me

E- Exit with a prayer of confirmation, forgiveness, praise or acceptance.

Lord, time feels fleeting to us but we know our time with You will be forever. Help us to live each day with You in the forever so we can enjoy each moment getting closer to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.=

Keeping you up-to-date. We expect The Kingdom of Thrim to be available some time in May.
