Here I am! WordofGodSpeak Linkup

This has been quite a week. I am trying to figure out many avenues to launch my new children’s book – The Kingdom of Thrim. But God showed me that instead I need to say, Here I am because He says, “Here I am!”.

Here I am

You can read the reviews from my launch team and others at Goodreads.

Now to what God taught me this morning. Since last week when I decided I just couldn’t read 17 NT books in 17 weeks at this time in my life, I thought I would go to back to the prayer list I had. But God had a different idea today. Instead He led me to a passage that I needed to hear. I hope you do too.

Using the S.I.M.P.L.E. Bible Study Method, I  look at one verse and see what God speaks to me about that one verse.

I looked at Revelation 3:20:

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me.

After looking a different references – James 5:9, Luke 12:36 and Romans 8:10, I looked at the context which is hearing speak to John about the churches. This time it is the church of Laodicea. He says that the church is neither cold nor hot – but lukewarm. He asks them to be earnest and repent.

My thoughts:

I need to take a close look at what I do and who I am. I believe there is always room for improvement. Sometimes I forget to listen – my emotions carry me, my self-reliance carries me. But I know better.

All I need to do is KNOCK and Christ will be right there. (click to tweet)

here I am

He never leaves, never wanders. He says:

HERE I AM!

Here I am.
Christ is always ready to open the door no matter who is knocking. (tweet this)

We have no excuse.

It says I need to hear the knocking.

What type of noise is blocking that sound? What noise am I allowing so I can’t hear Him?

And what if I hear the knocking. It says I must open the door. How often do I deafly ignore Jesus knocking? I hear the sound but other sounds, emotions or thoughts pull me away.

I need to obey Christ – then He comes in.

And He not only comes in but he eats with me and I with Him. This is reciprocal – a friendship.

Those were my thoughts before going into a time of meditation and prayer.

My Time Of Prayer brought forth these ideas:

Then I heard music. A song from my time at Wellington Square in Burlington, Ontario. The song is called: Pour Out My Heart.

by Vineyard.

This time the “here I am” is me. The words:

Here I am, once again
I pour out my heart
For I know that you hear
Every cry
You are listening.

But God says: Here I am back to me. Are you listening? (tweet this)

It did take me a long time to settle down into prayer and meditation today. But slowly I started to feel His peace. I need to get rid of all the mental racket (Ron Hughes told me that word, in Refresh).

Once again it comes to focus. Not on my “to dos” but on Jesus Himself. He says, “Here I am!” And He is asking  – are you listening? Will you obey what I tell you?

Prayer:

Lord, help me today to be able to listen and obey You. Help me to remain calm and at peace even when I feel inspired, even when I am working. Keep me totally living in You. Help me to keep the door open and breathe in Your Spirit.

  1. He is always waiting for us to come and recognize His presence! Beautiful! I’m your neighbor at Jaime Weibel’s link up this morning! Blessings, liz

    1. Thanks Liz. Focusing on what God has to say takes patience and timing. But we do have to talk to Him – that’s the first step.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  2. What a beautiful message! We try to take on so many things sometimes and want to handle it ourselves, but God is so good. He wants us to give it to Him, because He knows what is best for us. “Here I Am!” Love it! Thanks so much for the encouragement and for hosting 🙂

    1. Kelly,
I am trying so hard not to do “my thing”. But I do get in the way of progress when I step into the work before asking God to help me and guide me. I’m learning.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. Janis, thank you for you invitation, I linked up with you. I loved your post. I listened to Charles Swindoll and he spoke about obedience. We do not have to sin, we have the power against sinning. When I am faithful walking in obedience, how great it is. I am going to email you. Congratulations on your children’s book. Blessings Diana

    1. Diana,
Wonderful to meet you and yes – obedience – not looking at what I want to do , but what God’s wants me to do. Hard work.
I didn’t get an email yet.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  4. Loved this! This was a bit of confirmation for me. I am new to the blogging world and was wondering if I am headed in the right direction. I just wrote a similar article geared towards kids with the title Here I Am (although I am enjoying yours so much more!) I decided to answer back to God Here I am, and well Here I am. Enjoyed this post so much. Thank you!

    1. Mindy,
Welcome to the blogging world. I know God set this up for believers to reach the world – one post at a time. May you continue to listen to Him and not others. I would love to read the article for kids.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. My word for this year is listen, so this post spoke especially to me today. Thank you so much for being so faithful on standing for the Scripture as our guide and foundation.

    1. Elizabeth,
With all that is going on with this new book I have fallen away from reading as much as I usually do. I am getting empty and it’s time to go back to reading and writing my thoughts once again.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  6. We do need to clear our heads and lives of the “racket” and listen for God’s still small voice, Janis. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well as hosting the linkup, my friend!

  7. Whenever I read about Jesus standing at the door and knocking I see that famous picture in my head of Him doing that very thing. Hopefully you know what picture I’m talking about. It has always reminded me to be thankful that Jesus is always there for us. Thanks for the post Janis!

    1. Laura,
Is that the picture with the door knob or His side or ours? I got confused with the two pictures. But I see it as a door with no knobs but can swing each way. Sometimes we shut Him out – and other times He knows we aren’t there so it stays closed.
      Blessings
      Janis

  8. My takeaway from your words today has to do with obedience — if I’m faithfully obeying the light I have in this moment, more will be given. Thanks for putting out the welcome mat this morning! Blessings to you — and to Yoj!

I love to connect with you.
