How To Learn to Pray through the Scriptures

How To Learn to Pray through the Scriptures

Bible

Have you ever taken a Scripture and made a prayer from it? Lately I have found that this exercise has helped me in my prayer life.

I remember a number of years ago reading The Power of a Praying Wife. In this powerful book, Stormie Ormartian uses Scripture to write her prayers. Reading her devotional and then praying the prayers changed me. I wanted it to change my husband – but God knew otherwise – and it changed me instead.

Now I am reading Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. In this devotional there are also Scriptures at the bottom of each devotional. Those Scriptures help me communicate with God.

Last night I couldn’t sleep (both sinus headache and active mind)- so I got up, went downstairs (we were staying at my daughter’s house), and I took out my devotionals. I read both August 28 and 29. My eye went to these words from Psalm 63:

On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night (Psalm 63:6, NIV).

That was enough to start calming me down. Whatever had been on my mind left – and I started to rest in Him.

Most mornings I write out the Scriptures in Jesus Calling.

There is something powerful,
spiritual and exciting in writing out Scripture.
