INTO HIS PRESENCE WITH LOVE

Into His Presence with Love

by Mary Haskett

Thoughts of my church’s past Easter services keep popping into my mind, hymns and songs of praise and worship.

On Good Friday our pastor reminded us that it truly was a good Friday. He pointed out God’s goodness in sending His son to die for us, and the goodness of the Son to obey the Father.

Then came Easter Sunday morning; our pastor’s wife led us in worship. Among other songs we sang that most beautiful and thought provoking song, “How Deep the Father’s Love For Us” written by Stuart Townsend with co-writer Keith Getty. This song is so moving. Tears ran down my face when we sung:

How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns his face away
As wounds which mar the chosen one
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross
My guilt upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no powers, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

When we’d finished singing, our pastor’s wife reminded us of a worship leader who had once suggested we change one line in the song. Rather than singing, “It was my sin that held Him there,” we sang, “It was His love that held Him there.”

His love—what a thought! Let us enter into His presence thanking Him for his love, and let us express our love to Him?

Prayer:

Lord today I come into your presence with a heart full of love and gratitude for You. I love you for all you’ve done for me. I love you for listening to my prayers, for working things out for my good, for taking care of every aspect of my life. Lord I love  you and I thank you.
