What Is It That I Really Need?

What is it that I Really Need?

I’m a little late for Five Minute Fridays but can’t resist writing on this week’s prompt: NEED. Five minutes to type out my thoughts. Here goes.

need

This morning I read two devotionals – Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest, and Jesus Calling. Both said the same things to me – I only need Jesus.

The time I spend with Jesus every morning is all I need to give me everything I need for the day. (Tweet this)

Strength, calmness, focus, joy, connection, inspiration and on and on.

Sarah Young wrote:

You must traverse this day like any other; one step at a time.

That reminded me of a favourite song, Step by Step. Here is a great version with Michael W Smith blending this song with Forever we will sing.

Each step forward we get closer to our Lord. I need that.

I read a scripture prayer this morning that I turned into a personal prayer. Do you do that? This reminds me of what I need.

Hebrews 13:20-21

This is what I wrote:

Lord, may You equip me with everything good for doing Your will and will You work in me, what is pleasing to You. (NIV)

And Jesus – put me together and provide me with everything I need to please You. Make me into what gives You most pleasure (The Message)

And how to do I do that?

James 4:7-8

Submit yourself, then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you.

So what do I need? One answer: time with God. What about you? (Tweet this)

Time’s UP. Lots more to say but for this post I am supposed to write for 5 minutes only.

  1. I’ve been practicing a daily reading of scripture, rewriting it in my words, and responding with a written prayer. It’s helped me dive deeper into the word.

I was in James 4 not too long ago. What struck me was how the first step in the devil fleeing is submitting to God. I know it, but I sat with that thought longer and it got in me a little deeper. God’s word is so powerful.

    Great encouragement. Thanks.

    1. Cheryl,
Somehow I got very behind in my comments. Thank you for responding to my post. Very interesting idea that the devil flees when we submit. I like that. All that spiritual warfare – and all we need to do is give it over to God.
      Blessings

    1. Rachel,
Thank you so much. It’s great to meet you. I will drop by your Facebook Link. And time with God is SO important. And Oswald makes me think – really think.
      Blessings
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
