PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD

Prayers for the World

by Jan Cox

The words “pray for the world” have been used many times in searches on the Internet this week. We have seen people rise up against their oppressive governments; we have seen earthquakes and tsunamis and fears of a nuclear meltdown.

People are searching for a way to reach God in these times.

T.L..Wiens has spoken in Under the Cover of Prayer about ways to pray for our governments. It is not easy to pray for those in authority when we disagree with their policies. But we have to remember that Jesus is the head of all authorities and has the power to use them as He needs to in His plan.

“Whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities all things were created by him and for him” (Colossians 1:16 NIV UK).

I find that praying for different countries each day is a good way to lift people and their governments to our Lord. It doesn’t take a lot of time.

I read Operation World while having my breakfast and then pray for that country. On the sidebar to the right you will see the countries I have prayed for so far this year and each will link to the Operation World site for that country.

Join me in prayer and together we can learn about the countries as well as intercede for all the peoples of the world.

This week we especially pray for the people of Japan and Libya, whose lives are in turmoil and their countries torn apart.

“Do not fear.” Those words were some of the first I learned when I became a Christian.

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7 NIV UK).

Fear comes from Satan and Christ gave us power over him. So when you feel fearful try saying that Christ has overcome fear and you are free from Satan at all times.

Continue to pray.

My Gratitude list for this week:

36.  Our small town Pregnancy Care Centre

37.  Volunteers at the Centre

38.  The Board of the Centre who have shouldered many emergencies lately

39.  The women, our clients, at the Centre

40.  All the churches and others who support the Centre

41.  All the donors who give to the Centre

42.  Our small community who want to help us with donations of clothing and money

Prayer:

Father, these are times when many things in the world could frighten us. However, we know that you have conquered fear. We no longer are until its control. Help us to remember that and come to you whenever that “‘ole fear” might arise in our hearts. Thank you for Your Son, Jesus, who is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. We pray in His Name, AMEN.
