REST

Rest

by Rose Harmer

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”  (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV).

For many years I have followed a pattern in my devotions of praising God for who he is, requesting his forgiveness or help, and then simply being still and listening as his Holy Spirit speaks in a still, small, inaudible voice to my heart, writing out those precious words and pondering them throughout my day.  The following is one of these “listening”.

Yes, my child, I have much to teach you.
Do not despair; you learned a valuable lesson yesterday which is to rest.
You know you are too busy and place too much stress on your mind and body. The stress has brought about the pain in your chest, the heart appointments and various ailments.

I never intended you to take on the heavy loads.
Perhaps now you are willing to take my yoke which is easy and my light burdens.
Trust in Me and allow My delight and joy in your days.

His commands are so loving and gentle, it is easy to learn his ways when we study his word and take the time to be still and listen.
