Spirit and Life – #WOGS Linkup

Our scripture this week is 1 John 5:14. How can we find spirit and life by praying. Put this scripture to memory. Follow us on Word of God Speak Facebook Group.

spirit and life

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us ( 1 John 5:14, NIV)

We can come to God with no doubts. This means that when we ask God for things (and those things agree with what God wants for us), God cares about what we say (1 John 5:14, East-to-Read Version)

Today instead of going through the SIMPLE Method of Bible study, I am going to tell you my thoughts, feelings and application from studying this verse. I would love your feedback if this is easier to understand this way, or if you liked the detailed study using the SIMPLE Method.

Knowing that Jesus has saved us and opened the door to communicate and approach God – changed my life. Being able to ask Him anything. That reminded me of a children’s song that said those very words. “I can ask Him anything.”

Knowing His will is a little more difficult but very important. By being in His will as I learned from HIm back in 2014 we can find peace in every decision we make. And as I studied God’s Will through 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 I found out I truly can find joy in all circumstances.

If I want my words to God to count  – I need to take time and pray. (tweet this)

If it is in God’s will, then the path will be clear. He does hear us. That’s why we need to stick close to Him, so we know His will.

I know God loves me and wants His best for me. My blog started with the scripture 1 Peter 5:7 – He cares for us. And that’s how Tadeo Turtle was written – knowing that we are made exactly how He created us.

Here is  quote from Oswald Chambers – wise words about talking to God.

If we have never had the experience of taking our casual, religious shoes off our casual, religious feet— getting rid of all the excessive informality with which we approach God— it is questionable whether we have ever stood in His presence (Oswald Chambers).

We must know Who Jesus is in order to be in His will. (tweet this)

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life (John 6:63, NIV).

Once again Oswald Chambers spoke to me:

Once, the Bible was just so many words to us — “clouds and darkness”— then, suddenly, the words become spirit and life because Jesus re-speaks them to us when our circumstances make the words new.

Jesus can make the words of our Bible be spirit and life.
Just ask Him. (tweet this)

    1. Susan,
Thank you. I believe I wrote back to you but here I am again. I now know to write from what God has shown me and not all the way He did it.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  1. I think we so complicate our relationship with God, complicate knowing Him and knowing His will. Perhaps this is a tool of the enemy to get us to give up because we believe it’s just too hard to know God, understand His word, and follow His will. The truth is, it’s simple and easy and we’re the ones who twist it all up! I love your thoughts this week.

    1. Oh Elizabeth you are spot on. I believe that Satan complicates everything he can so we can get away from the simplest enjoyment of our Creator. He makes us argue over silly things rather than leave it up to Him. SIMPLE – that has always been my method.

  2. Janis, I enjoyed this post because My Utmost has been my devotional of choice this year. Most Sundays, I have been sharing a quote from the devotional which spoke to me during the week. He has a way of provoking our thoughts to go deeper into God’s Word. Have a blessed Sunday!

    1. Joanne,
This is probably my sixth time through Oswald but it seems (like the Bible) new every morning. I guess as I grow deeper it talks to me on a deeper level.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. I’ve been pondering this Oswald Chambers quote. So good. It strikes me, though, that in the grace and mercy of God, He has used clouds to lead and guide His people in the past. I wonder if sometimes what we see as “a cloud of unknowing” is really His guidance and we don’t recognize it until after the fact.

    1. Michele,
Can you see how far behind I am in my regular jobs. Grace please. I like that a “cloud of unknowing”… but leading us onward.
      Blessings,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
