Sunday Stillness – By wisdom a house is built

Sunday Stillness – By wisdom a house is built

For the past month I have been reading a Proverbs a day with an online Facebook group. This exercise proved to be a great discipline. Reading through each Proverb I would see where God led me. On day 24 I read this verse.

By wisdom a house is built,
and through understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3, NIV)

Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation] (Proverbs 24:3, Amplified Bible)

In my journal I had sketched a picture to remind me of this Proverb.

proverbs-24;3

As we can see from the Amplified Bible, house can mean your life, your family, your home. So taking a look at my life I know that I need to continue to grow by reading the Bible, following discussions and listening to God. I believe I am filling my mind with knowledge that will become beautiful treasures. I find even now I am using Bible verses to encourage others.

We started a Bible study back in Haliburton, using my SIMPLE Method of Bible study. For the past two weeks we studied a verse a week.

I shouldn’t be amazed but I am – how God can use the same verse to say different things to each of us.

We discuss the questions that come into our mind, and then we each take a time of quiet prayer to talk to God and most importantly to listen to Him. Then we come back and whoever wants to share what they heard, may.

If you are interested these are the two Scriptures we used:

Romans 8:6

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Proverbs 28:19

Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You so much for the power of Your Word. Every time I read a verse and study it – really study it, You bring so much into my mind. You can convict, inspire, lead and guide us through Your Word. Thanks for this marvelous discipline of studying the Bible. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

God amazes me how each verse of the Bible can mean something different to each of us. (click to tweet)

  1. Janis, thank you so much for sharing your Godly words of wisdom and your beautiful painting. I’m also glad you shared the house from your journal. I doodle in my devotional journal too, but I’ve never colored any in…yet. Looking forward to your Creative Tuesday piece. 🙂

    1. Tracy,
I do enjoy reading the Bible so much. And lately the sketching and even painting has extended this love.
      Blessings and thanks,
      Janis

    1. Thanks Nannette,
I do so enjoy reading the Bible and pulling out what the Holy Spirit wants me to learn and remember.
      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. Nina,
I found my study of a proverb a day quite interesting and it brought many pictures to mind to help me remember the proverb.
      Thank you.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. I LOVE this water color! It makes me want to be part of this idyllic scene and reminds me of the peace and joy we find in God’s Word. Thanks for hosting & God bless,

    1. Laurie,
Thank you! As I looked through some older watercolours, I found this one. To me it shows such a firm foundation, beautiful setting, just perfect for a home.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  4. The Proverbs are so special to our family, because my husband has used them in family devotions and in one-on-one times with our four boys. Thanks for hosting today, and for our faithfulness each week!

  5. There truly is so much richness and depth to God’s word. I like that you’re challenging people to study one verse at a time. We rush through so many passages and miss so much of the meaning God wants us to glean. And as you’ve said, it’s always interesting when we hear the thoughts of others, since they pick up on details we might have missed. Great thoughts, Janis! And thanks, as always, for the linkup!

    1. Oh Beth,
I am so grateful you feel that way too. It is wonderful to check out each verse, then listen to the Spirit show the truth for me at that moment.
      Blessings,
      Janis
