Sunday Stillness – Leisurely Pace

Sunday Stillness – Leisurely Pace

Leisurely-Pace
Turtle Watercolour Batik by Janis Cox

Last week, as I took on a grandma roll, I learned to stop striving but live in the moment of pure enjoyment. I had read Jesus Calling before my granddaughter arrived and I prepared myself to live at a “leisurely pace”. Listening to God as I spent time with my granddaughter I realized that this is the way to live.

Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes (Psalm 37:7, NIV).

There were no “wicked schemes” but I kept reminding myself that this time is precious. I didn’t think of what I had to do. I just enjoyed each moment. When she got homesick for mommy I just held her until she calmed down and then we were fine. Less talk and more connection.

I also read a great post about playing with your children. It reminded me of saying on a collector’s plate that says, “Stop and smell the roses”. Rachel Martin wrote “Why Playing Does not Mean Cleaning”.

Are you living at a leisurely pace? If not, why not? What is pursuing you?

Sarah Young in Jesus Calling also says:

When you rush, you forget who you are and whose you are (Jesus Calling, August 5).

Today is Sunday Stillness.

Do you have a Scripture that spoke to you this week? Please link below. If you post to Twitter use #sundaystillness and @authorjaniscox.

I would love it if you would subscribe to my blog. See the sidebar to enter your email address.

Read the Sunday Stillness rules if you are new here.

I would appreciate if you would link only about God’s Word. If you have a linky party that’s okay if it is about the same thing. Please no sales or prizes. I want this to be friendly but I must ask you to abide by the rules. Others want to read God’s Word – and that is what I would like the links to be about. I must take down the links that don’t follow the rules. Thanks so much.

  1. Thanks for all the lovely replies. It is wonderful that many are using Jesus Calling as well. It speaks to my heart for sure – brings out the Mary in me.

  2. Good morning, Janis! Psalm 37:7 is such a lovely verse, and a great reminder that we need to enjoy each moment God provides us with! I also wrote on a similar note in my most recent post, named “A Busy Week Planned”. So glad you had a good time with your granddaughter!
    Blessings, Ann

  3. Hi Janis,
Such a lovely post … really underlining how to grasp the moment – following the initiatives of the child and whatever is about to unfold! I’m also interested in Jesus calling – will see if it’s available as e-book – such a lovely quote! Blessings to your week,
    Nina

  4. I am also using Jesus Calling as my devotional this year. It so speaks to me right where I am each day. I loved reading this post this morning. Thank you for sharing it! And for hosting the link up each week which is such a blessing.
    Have a wonderful Sunday,
    Joanne

  5. Hi Janis, I really want to read that book, Jesus Calling. I thought I had it but I don’t. I’ve heard such great things about it. Thanks for sharing that little tidbit. Have a blessed Sabbath!

  6. HI Janis – I always enjoy your lovely paintings and the thoughts on Scripture that you share. Also wanted to let you know that I don’t have a twitter account (yet – I will probably succumb to the pressure soon. LOL) so no worries about retweeting or following me. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  7. I love the Jesus Calling books. I used one with my children and then bought the women’s version. Such wonderful devotions. Have a blessed Sunday!

I love to connect with you.
