Sunday Stillness – What are you wearing?

Sunday Stillness – What are you wearing?

This week, the phrase “clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ” keeps going through my mind.

What-are-you-wearing--Romans-13-14

Romans 13:14 says:

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

How can we clothe ourselves in Jesus? I have 4 thoughts.

  1. Read your Bible every day.
  2. Pray often.
  3. Join with others to learn more about following Jesus.
  4. Be grateful all the time.

Also watch out for those deceivers.

One of my favourite songs is Put on a Garment of Praise, sung by Robin Mark.

Put on the garments of praise, for the spirit of heaviness;
Let the oil of gladness flow down from your throne!
Put on the garments of praise, for the spirit of heaviness;
Your joy is my strength alone, my strength alone!

Make these broken weary bones rise to dance again,
Wet this dry and thirsty land with a river!
Lord our eyes are fixed on you and we are waiting,
For your garland of grace as we praise your name!

(chorus)

Hallelujah, sing hallelujah!
We give all honor and praise to your name!
Hallelujah, sing hallelujah!
We trade our sorrows for garments of praise!

You can listen to Robin singing Garments of Praise.

Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

  1. Love this, Janice! As today is Mother’s Day, our Pastor preached on the Proverbs 31 woman and we discussed the idea of being clothed in strength and honor. I love the truth that He provides all of our needs, including our righteousness.

    May He continue to fill your cup to overflowing!

    1. Thank you Heather,
      We too heard about the Proverbs 31 woman on Sunday. Keeping close to Jesus, listening to the Holy Spirit keeps us clothed in proper attire.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  2. I have been a Robin Mark addict for many years. In fact, when at my funeral event, one of those songs will be sung. AND he’s been here in Omaha a few times and I’ve been able to go and listen and rejoice about 3 times. He’s been quite a special writing, singing, sharer around the world in the Word of God. Thanks so much for everything, but this really grabbed me strongly. Blessings…

    1. Joanne,
      We share the same music loves. You are so fortunate to have seen him do a live performance. I am so happy you enjoyed my post.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. This is a great post…those are the 4 most important things, I agree. Thanks for the invitation to link up and for hosting! Have a beautiful Sunday and a great week ahead 🙂

  4. Janis, thank you for this. Another favorite of mine is in Colossians: Clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
    I sure need that reminder!
    Thanks for hosting the link this weekend!

    1. Oh Michele,
      I like that one too – clothe in Christ with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Wonderful! I always need it, especially when I snap at my husband.
      Blessings,
      janis

  5. Well now you know I’m from Northern Zireland Janis so you know you’ve picked a well known (to me) Christian Songwriter but I have to admit I this is not a well known song yo me. Did you ever make that trip over?

    1. Sandra,
      We are very familiar with Robin Mark at our church in Haliburton. Our minister is a Robin Mark fan (He just went to the concert in Peterborough – and I missed it!), We learned a new one this week too. At least new to us.
      We have not made the trip yet. Still wanting to go so much but not able to drive on the left side of the road – so not sure how to do it without going on a tour and that way I would miss my father’s birthplace – Pettigo.
      Blessings,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
