Sunday Stillness – Who was Irena Sendler?

From Wikipedia

While talking Beth Moore’s study called Children of the Day, Beth mentioned Irena Sendler. Curious, I looked her up and decided we would watch the movie about her.

Excellent movie and quite a story.

Irena was a Polish nurse during WWII who worked with the Polish Underground.

Assisted by some two dozen other Żegota members, Sendler smuggled approximately 2,500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto and then provided them with false identity documents and shelter outside the Ghetto, saving those children from the Holocaust.[4]

Born in 1910, she died in 2008 at the age of 98.

Here is the link to the movie.

  1. I remember hearing about this lady. Amazing how people helped others in the war. I might watch some time. It is hard to watch WWII movies, have seen too many and breaks my heart. Thanks for commenting on my blog. Next week I may join you, thanks for the invitation!!

    1. Becky,
Thank you for dropping over. I think you would find this a “lighter” WWII movie. Although there were a couple of very tough spots, most were the behind the scenes intrigue of how she got the children out of the ghetto.
Would love to see you on Sunday Stillness.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  2. This is a movie my husband and I will have to look for at Netflix. We like to learn more about those who risked so much for so many, especially during WWII. Thanks.

I linked our book review up with Literary Musing Mondays today too.

    1. Carrie,
What a great idea. And to check out other men and women who were working undercover helping those who needed the help. Another name was Frederik Bonhoeffer. I want to learn more about him, too.
      Blessings
      Janis

  3. I’m looking forward to watching the movie. I have never heard of her. It is so good to realized that some were quietly doing heroic work. Thank-you for hosting.

    1. Carol,
I hope you are able to watch it and would love to hear your thoughts afterwards. Yes so many behind the scenes stories of people quietly doing God’s work.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  4. Never heard of her, Janis. I’m glad you and Beth Moore have shared her story. She must have been a very brave and faith-filled woman! Thanks also for the linkup, my friend!

I love to connect with you.
