THE BLEEDING LAMB

The Bleeding Lamb

by Brenda J. Wood

Yesterday, while I was praying, God gave me a mind picture of Jesus. He walked into a sunshiny, undisturbed meadow, through wild flowers and shaggy green grass. As he came closer, I saw that he carried a lamb. It was so snug in his arms that I wondered if Jesus was carrying himself. Could this be possible? After all, he is the Lamb of God.

I know that shepherds sometimes have to break a runaway or disobedient lamb’s leg. Then they carry it till it heals. By then it loves the master so much that it is obedient. But as he moved closer, I could see that this lamb’s chest oozed blood.

And all of a sudden, I realized that I was the lamb. The Lord knows my heart is broken. And as one, together, we are moving though our grief into wholeness.

Psalm 116:15-Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of those faithful to him.

So we go move forward together, God carrying me through my brokenness, understanding it, because he already bled and died on the cross for me.

I’m oozing blood but no longer dripping it. Slowly, my pain eases. Me….the snowy white lamb. Snowy white with no bits of dirt or twig in my wool. Not because I am a fanatical lamb, but because when I asked Jesus into my life, he forgave my sin and made me clean.

God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows; you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.

Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure.  You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies.

You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life. Amen ( Psalm 23- from the Message)
