TIME – CAN WE SLOW IT DOWN?

Time – can we slow it down?

“We live in a time-starved society that relentlessly pushes us to the limits – and not just at the holidays. Buy more, do more, accomplish more, conquer more. Rush rush. Hurry, hurry. (Weird, Craig Groeschel, page 25)

That was my life. When I look back I was on a treadmill and I couldn’t seem to find the way off. I would watch TV in the evenings thinking that it would rest me, but it didn’t. My list of “to-do’s” seemed to get longer and longer. I had no quiet time – music, kids, husband, work, meals, fun – but no quiet time, except when I got into bed and fell asleep (my husband would say “before your head hits the pillow”).

Reading chapter 4 of Ann Voskamp’s book, One Thousand Gifts, called a “Sanctuary of Time”, I see that this would have helped tremendously. I wrote a little about this last Thursday.

How do we slow down TIME? How can we live fully with little stress but still do all that is expected of us?

I think Ann has found the answer – she talks about being thankful, seeing the gifts of God in each minute of the day. That does SLOW DOWN TIME. I am trying this and I have found such a peace. A few seconds of , “Thank You God, for the beautiful sunshine, the green of the trees, the birds chirping”, can help me breathe in His gifts to me.

If you haven’t purchased her book yet I would recommend it highly. I believe it can be life changing.

More on Thursday of how I think I might be on the right track – engaging with life, but living it fully. Can we find JOY in the hustle and bustle of this modern life?
