WEDNESDAY’S WORD – Perseverance

Wednesday’s Word – Perseverance

Ant - Perseverance
The ant is always working. Never gives up.

This past week I had a wonderful Sabbath Rest from blogging. I did try to keep connected but I stayed away from the computer more than usual.

Study God and his strength,
seek his presence day and night; (1 Chronicles 16:11, The Message)

What did I learn this week? The word that kept coming to me was perseverance.

There are times when I feel overwhelmed with the ideas and jobs that God has put in front of me. If I look at the forest (the whole week ahead) I can get overwhelmed.

When my daughter first attended university she felt that way. Being her first time in a semester system she saw the end looming before it even came. She saw all her assignments that were due. She panicked. Everything seemed impossible.

I know how she felt. Do you feel this way sometimes?

You take a look at your calendar, your responsibilities, your commitments and you feel like crawling in a hole, burying your head in the sand or pulling your head inside your shell like Tadeo Turtle.

Enter Jesus.

Jesus certainly had commitments, crowds of people following Him, disciples questioning Him. But how did He react. Always calmly and with much patience and love. He only got angry with the Pharisees calling them, you brood of vipers, (Matthew 12:34, NIV) and the money changers. Jesus overturned their tables. (Matthew 21:12-13, NIV)

And Jesus also went away to pray. He sought the solace of God. He knew He got His strength from His Father. And so can we.

I find that if I keep going in my own way without a thought of praying, I don’t get much done and I can feel overwhelmed. But if I ask God for help first – then He comes and His power, His Spirit and His passion can flow through me.

Seek His Presence day and night.

  1. So glad Janet gave this link on her blog, Jan. It’s a word in season for each of us. Mom said whenever things were difficult, her grandmother told her, “The thing to do is to persevere.” Those conversations would be in the early 1900’s and nothing has changed. I’m so thankful fo all the encouragement in our God’s Word. Blessings!

  2. “Seek His presence day and night.” Oh yes…I needed this reminder. I thought of you and your rest from blogging. Something I’ve tried to limit this past week but haven’t been very successful. Your words inspire me to make this a priority…maybe not a whole week, but I sense a day is needed to be refreshed. Blessings to you.

    1. Beth,
We all need Sabbath rests – whether a week, a day or sometimes an hour. I like to stop ever once in a while and just thank Him for the energy He can been giving me.
      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. Thanks so much and I pray for blessings upon you and your readers. Let’s think of ourselves as God’s ants. He gives us that strength we require to persevere.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. Dear Janis
I hope you are well rested and had a good time just spending time with your Pappa and yourself! I have found that even when I wake up at night, my heart immediately reaches out to our Pappa! Where would ever want to live p, but in His presence!
    Blessings to you
    Mia

    1. Mia,
Yes the Sabbath week from blogging was a wonderful blessing. And I do the same at night – when I awake I just say, thank you and go right back to sleep most times.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  4. This speaks to my heart, Janis — so much I feel I have to do that I risk losing sight of my priorities — most importantly, The Priority. Thanks for the great post & for hosting & God bless.

    1. Laurie,
We do risk sight of what God wants when we focus too much on “doing” stuff. Take a breath – find Him and then get back into the race.
      Blessings,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
