What are My Roots – Five-Minute Fridays

Roots – Make them Firm

Friday – the time for a 5 minute post – no editing – just write. Linking to Lisa-Jo. Today’s word is ROOTS.

I never tired hearing my Dad talk about Ireland. He came with his family in 1921 when he was 11 years old. I loved hearing the old songs, my Grandma’s lilting Irish broque as well as my Aunt Edna’s, and about how green Ireland was. I knew my grandparents left Ireland because their business took place on one side of the line and their home on the other (Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland). I can still sing “Phil the Fluter’s Ball”. But I never asked enough questions.

My Dad passed away in 1993 and I never had the questions I have now. What was life like? What did you do as a child? I do know that he read Guliver’s Travels when he was 6 years old. This is where I get my love of reading. I can’t get enough – I read and read.

My Mom’s family is Canadian – Toronto – small shop owners. Maybe that’s where I get my love of marketing and sales. I love to tell others about Christ. Always on my mind – how awesome is our God. But I didn’t ask her enough questions either. She died at the age of 94 in January 2012.

But the best roots of all come from our connection with God. He is our ROOT. Jesus is the root of Jesse who hails back to Adam. Isn’t that wonderful!

“A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of power,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord—
 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:1-3 NIV).

Let’s build firm roots – in our families, with our friends and co-workers. In order to grow in Jesus we need firm roots.

Blessings,

Jan

    1. Oh I am equally ecstatic that we are graphed into the family of God. Praising God for sending His Son, Jesus, for us.

      Thanks for the compliments on my paintings.

I love to connect with you.
