Word of God Speak – Linky – Have you found One Word for 2016?

Finally God did it – He led me to my One Word for 2016. The word is ABOUND.

Abound
Using watercolour pencils on 70 pound paper.

And I couldn’t have come up with that one. As I was meditating one morning – that’s what I heard – abound.

So I looked it up:

  • to be present in large numbers or in great quantity
  • to be copiously supplied
  • be in a state of movement or action
  • to be filled

Abound Acronym Janis Cox

Act boldly, openly under new direction. – Abound is my Word for 2016
2 Corinthians 9:8. (tweet this)

My scripture for the year is: (This will be our memory verse for this week.) 2 Corinthians 9:8

And one additional scripture for me to keep in mind is  Philippians 1:9,

I am so excited to see where He will lead me this year.

Here are my thoughts on studying this scripture using the SIMPLE Bible Study Method.

S – Say the passage out loud:

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8, NIV).

I – Interpretation – Find out all you can about the passage. When? Where? Why?

Here is the Greek word “abound” from this passage for all those Greek scholars: περισσεῦσαι, to make a thing to abound unto one, to confer a thing abundantly upon one (Strongs 4052)

This verse is found under the heading “Sowing generously” in my Bible. Paul is encouraging the Corinthians to be generous.

Two Scriptures that tie in with this are Ephesians 3:20 and Philippians 4:19.

I noticed in both scriptures “all” is repeated. And that God is more than able to do everything. And that His power is at work in us.

M- Make a list of thoughts, questions and ideas.

Through ALL things I need to remember that God supplies ALL my needs. In order to ABOUND in all I do, I need to surrender it all to God.

Surrender = give to God in prayer

Prayer and connection need to be my focus this year.

Even if I don’t think I can do something, God can and will if I stick with Him. (tweet this)

What does it mean “all grace abound to me”? Does that mean I don’t have to be perfect? Does it mean I can relax? Let it go. Find God’s power – not mine and go where He tells me.

P- Pray for God’s Guidance This is a silent time of prayer, listening to God Speak.

I had a lovely meditation when I finally stopped talking to God and LISTENED.

L- Life – How can I apply what I have heard from God to my life?

In order for God to be known I must break free through my wall of insecurity – the introvert in me. I must allow Him to let me BURST FORTH – to show His light to the world.

I have felt “birthing pains” in the latter part of 2015. I have seen visions of butterflies working to come out of their protective coverings. Sometimes I feel like I am knocking, hammering and waiting to crack through, while at the same time I’m held back by my insecurities.

Lord, when You gave me the word ABOUND, I felt elated, set free, unentangled, ready to do Your will.

But I also must plan:

I’m feeling energized, invigorated and excited to see what God will do. (tweet this)

E- Exit with a prayer of confirmation, forgiveness, praise or acceptance.

Lord, I am so grateful for Your presence in my life. I feel such an abiding peace and joy. Now I feel Your abundance and your consistency in all I do. Thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. “Abound” is a great word. My word is similar but different too. I chose “boundaries” as my word for this year. I find myself volunteering for everything around me. I need to set some healthy boundaries and not let myself get overwhelmed by trying to make everyone happy.

I am visiting from Ask God Today Ministries’ Warm Hearted Wednesday link up. Thanks for sharing your post with us.

  2. Abound. What a great word…a great concept, really, to guide your year. I’m not in the habit of choosing “one word” for the year, but I’m coming to like the idea. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I Love your word Janis, I love the acronyms and how you explain them. Mine is intentional, was a little surprised when I heard the word though. But I’m praying to be more intentional this year in my pursuit of God and life goals.
    Blessings to you Ma.
    Have a great week

    1. Grace,
Thanks for your words about my acronyms. It is almost like the words just come to me – God speaking I think. Intentional was my word from last year. And I think it kept me focused on being intentional for Jesus and really listening to what He wanted me to do.
      Blessings,
      janis

  4. My word this year is service-my desire is to serve others and be less “me” focused. Not easy, because we, as humans, typically are self-focused. Being others-focused is a discipline. So, I’m excited but also…not. haha.

I LOVE your acronyms, by the way!

    1. Mary,
Service – what a great word that is. We all need to focus more on that. But God will open doors if we pray, listen and then act – Right? Praying you have a fruitful year.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. I love your one word for this year! My word is listen. I want to learn to listen, to hear God well, to heed what He says wholeheartedly.

    1. Elizabeth,
Listen is a great word and part of my PLAN acronym. So we will both be working on this. Great to have friends to keep us accountable isn’t it?
      Blessings
      Janis

    1. Linda,
I love writing – words, thoughts, questions. The mind picture did help me look at all that abound could mean to me.
I like your word – commit.
      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. Thank you for commenting. After so much prayer, I knew it was my word – honestly I never really knew that scripture and certainly that word was not on my mind. Now it has become quite the focus and I remind myself that God is able to all that He needs for His glory. I just need to listen.
      Blessings
      Janis

    1. Nannette,
Acronyms seem to come easily to me – this one flew off the page. To abound means so much to me now. I should make a mind map to see the possibilities.
      Blessings
      Janis

  6. What a great word, Janis! And I absolutely love your acronyms! Thank you so much for sharing and hosting, Love! GOD bless you, beautiful friend! 🙂

P.S.- When you have a moment will you send me the link to your art group on FB, please Ma’am? 🙂

  7. I enjoyed this post because I love acronyms. They are such a fun way to remember those things which are important to me. It is such a creative way to learn our “one word” too. Have a blessed Sunday!

    1. Joanne,

Great to see you. I hope you have an amazing year. Thanks – the acronyms just seem to come – no force or hard thinking so I figure they are inspired – right? It certainly helps keep me focused which I need to do as I tend to sprout ideas very quickly.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  8. I love your word! Just saying the words sounds so full of possibility! May God bless you and make you abound as you live for Him! 🙂

    1. Gayl,
That’s exactly how I felt when I heard the word, too. And I don’t have to “do” it – God will enable everything, right? I just have to follow Him and do as He asks.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  9. What a great word for 2016! I love the acronyms, Scripture, and creativity. Your post had caused me to dream about ways I can be more creative with my “teamwork,” theme–I want to be sure that I stick with this & keep teaming-up, all year long.

Thanks for the inspiration, and opportunity to connect in the link-up. I’m wishing you a blessed and abundant year!

    1. Jed,
Teamwork is essential if we want to spread Christ’s message of salvation. I’m glad you’re on my team here at Word of God Speak. May we do more working together this year as God leads us. I pray that you are filled with excitement of the possibilities that God is able to do all this.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  10. Abound is a great word! I like how you explained God’s provisions that allow us to abound in the Bible verses that you shared. Lovely acrostics! Blessings as you depend on Him in this new year.

    1. Thank you Carol,
I love putting my thoughts into a simple formula – a short poem, an acrostic, – anything where it will remind me of the truth. I feel quite elated that God is showing me how to connect with others and to teach other believers how to listen to Him.
      Blessings,
      Janis

    1. MIchele,
Thanks so much. Yes I love acronyms – and they seem to help me remember what I am supposed to do. I love the term “queen of acronyms”.
      Blessings,
      Jansi

I love to connect with you.
