My Word for 2016?

I have been praying this week to find my word for 2016. I have mulled over many things. As we celebrated Christmas I focused on all that meant to me. This week I found myself thinking about “after Christmas”. What does that mean?

I thought about the magi and wrote a post for Community Moms for this coming week. I really thought about those wisemen. They knew something important happened. They had seen a sign.

Am I watching carefully enough to see a sign from God? (tweet this)

I decided to look over the past 4 years – ever since I started choosing one word for the year. You can see my walk by clicking the links below. I went from trust, to live, to follow and then this year be intentional.

I don’t know what my word for 2016 is – yet. I know that I need to take this week to spend in prayer and study. I won’t be posting any regular posts until next weekend.

While I am searching for my word, I ask you, do you have a word for this year? (tweet this)

Here is my history of words.

2013 The year to Live

At the time of posting this I think I might have my word – stay tuned.

  1. I never do have a word but I do feel protected. So many things happened yesterday and I thank God for them. My friend had a baby and I visited her on the way out and it meant I just missed being in a horrific car accident. This guy’s car was upside down and burnt out – and he was alive and is ok. I just thought gosh God really must be looking out for people right now. I just hope that maybe your word is Happy – as that is what I would wish for you.

    Thank you for visiting me.

    1. Thanks for telling me that you ended up in spam.

Oh what a lovely word – but it is not happy. This weekend you will see my word.
I am happy that you are okay. Thanks so much for visiting. I hope you come back again.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  2. Stopping by from Titus 2 Tuesdays and wanted to share my word for this year. I’m going with “bloom” because I want to literally bloom in all areas of my life – ministry, motherhood, marriage, etc.

    1. Elizabeth,
Listen is a great word. That is part of the SIMPLE method of Bible study. When we pray we sometimes just yak and yak but we really need to be quiet and listen. Praying for you that this year can be one of such delight when you can listen and hear from God.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  3. Hi, sweet Janis and Happy New Year, Love! I haven’t had the chance to write for the last couple of weeks, and so it’s so great to visit and link-up with you again! My one word for this year is “be”. As I spent the last few hours of 2015 entering into 2016 praying and just being with GOD, HE whispered to my heart, “Just simply be with ME.” and so my only focus this year is to just continually and intimately “be” with HIM. I pray that HE will speak to your heart and give you a powerful word to focus on this year as well. GOD bless you, beautiful friend! 🙂

    1. Tai,
I did miss your smiling face. The past few weeks have been very quiet on the Internet.

I think that is a great word for you this year – “be”. I am sure that will be something that you talk about on your blog. We all need to be with Him, focus on Him and rest in Him.
      Blessings,
      Janis

      1. Awww! Janis, you are such a sweet heart! … I think a lot of bloggers may have taken a bit of a break during the holidays, but I’m elated to be back and fellowship with you this week. Infinite blessings, sweet friend! 🙂

  4. Hi, Janis! Praying and trusting that the Lord will reveal to you the perfect word that will supply with great encouragement and growth in the coming year!! Thanks for letting me know that I had posted in the wrong link-up last week. I hadn’t even noticed till you messaged me. Thanks also for hosting this link-up. Have a blessed week!!

    1. Ann,
Thanks for the prayer. I am still working on listening to Him. I have some ideas about my word – but not really sure. So waiting. And no problem with linking in the wrong place. I don’t usually have that linky up – but tried to get a place for people to put their favourite charities. Didn’t really grow much.
Looking forward to getting to know you more in 2016,
      Blessings,
      Janis

  5. Happy to have found your blog through my friend, Kelly Smith @MrsDisciple. I think I’ve landed on my word but haven’t had a chance to write about it yet. Savor. Thanks for hosting the link up!

    1. Andrea,
I have just met Mrs.Disciple and pleased to have found you as a new friend. Thanks for linking up. I can’t wait to hear your word for this year.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  6. I can’t wait to hear more about your word, Janis! You have been such a big encouragement to me this year. Thank you! And thank you for linking up! #FridayFive

    1. Kelly,
You made my night. Thank you for your kind words. I love to be an encourager and so grateful that my words have spoken to you. I am looking forward to getting to know you better this year.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  7. Just a quick comment to say, “hi,” and to thank you for letting me join in the link-up. I always appreciate the opportunity to meet new friends and share with others. I’m looking forward to hearing your word next week. This was my first time picking a theme for the year (“teamwork” is my word), and I’ve been pleasantly surprised to discover that so many have been doing this for years. Wishing you an incredible 2016!

    1. Jed,
So wonderful to meet another online friend. Thanks for linking and for commenting. I like your new linkup too.
May we have a year filled with surprises as the Lord leads us.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  8. I don’t always decide on a word for the year, Janis. Sometimes it seems hard to boil it down to just one word or thought. It seems as if that might be part of your issue this year with “after Christmas.” There’s so much that God could bring to the surface for you in that focus. For this year I’ve sensed God’s leading to think about the word “release.” I’m not sure what all that might involve. I do feel as if there is much that I need to release in order to follow Christ better. I also think there may be things He wants to release me to do as well. Thanks for your heart, my friend! I’m praying God makes it crystal clear for you what you should focus on this year. 🙂

    1. Hi Beth,
Thanks for the prayers, Beth. I am still struggling but have lots of time – there is no rule when this word will happen. I like your “release”. If you are hearing that it might be what you are to look into for this year. Do you have a scripture? Freedom to do something? Freedom to let something go? Very interesting. I will pray for your discernment.
Blessings and I am excited to see what God has in store for us.
      Janis

  9. Janis, I’m sure your word will be great, just as your others have been. It’s fun knowing you are doing this too. A lot easier too I think that specific resolutions that never happen. . Looking forward to reading what you end up with.

P.S. I have a blog design suggestion for you: if you keep your blog more focused on just what you are writing w/o all the other images, it will make it easier for people to find your comments section as it one has to go through quite a lot of stuff scrolling down to find it. Hope that helps.

Also, I notice that still your image does not show up under the headline in CT’s sidebar. One guess is that you appear to have two same headlines at the top? The other better guess is that it could well be b/c you and Tracey’s blogs are not on “blogspot” (showing up in your web address) by hosting your blog through blogger you are not a blogger. Not sure though. It is entirely out of my control how the widget displays the blogs other than I have everyone selected for an image associated. Anyway, I suspect it’s likely a blogger platform verses regular site thing. I used to have a blog on my art portfolio site through squarespace but had these sort of issues with other blogger blogs so then switched back to blogger.

    1. Thanks Michael,
Last year it took me quite a while to come up with my Word – I have an idea but I don’t know if that’s it – so continuing to study, pray and listen.

I use WordPress Self-Hosted. The comments are always at the top left. The icons at the bottom are from all the people who link to my Word of God Speak. (like your linky with names but this one uses icons). So I have no way of changing that.

As for my picture not showing up on Creative Tuesdays it is probably because of not being on blogger. But I haven’t had time to fiddle with anything here.

I am working on another stained glass even though I said I wouldn’t be blogging this week. But I love batik so doing another one. Hoping it’s all right to add two.

      Happy New Year,
      Blessings,
      Janis

  10. Happy 2016! Are you back in the sunny Southwest? Hope that your time with your family was wonderful. Looking forward to hearing what your word might be. As for me, I’m looking at a question this year: What’s your hurry?
Trusting for grace to slow down and see God at work.
    Blessings!

    1. Hi Michele,
Yes we are back in Arizona. We only went home for one week this time and spent our first Christmas here. Very quiet.
That’s an interesting “word”/”question”. May you find His peace in all you do whether you are hurrying or standing still.
      Blessings and Happy New Year,
      Janis

I love to connect with you.
