PRAYING FOR THE WORLD

Praying for the World

“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live” (1 Timothy 2:1-3, The Message).

A few years ago God put it on my heart to pray for the countries of the world. He led me to a book called Operation World 2001. There is a new book coming out soon. That year I prayed my way through all the countries. I found this book enlightening. I learned not only information about each country, but about the people, the politics, their history and specific prayers for each country.

Since then I have focused on prayers for Canada. I began a blog in January 2009, called Spirit-Filled Canada. My meeting with Ed Hird and subsequent reading of his book Battle for the Soul of Canada, prompted my creation of this blog. Then I wrote a Bible Study to go with Ed’s book. It is called Seeking God’s Solution for a Spirit-Filled Canada.

To lift the leaders of our countries in prayer at all levels of government is important to God.

Think of God’s wonderful answers to prayers. Here are but a few:

  • The Berlin Wall came down.
  • Russia has more of a free market economy and has a willingness to openly discuss problems between countries (has joined the G8).
  • Poland after many years of occupation is now a free democratic country.
  • Ireland after many years of turbulence is now experiencing a blessed peace.

Now my prayers have expanded to praying for Poland as I have developed a love of the people from my two recent mission trips.

Remember as we pray, “Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments.”

Prayer:

Father, thank You for hearing our prayers. Thank You for working in the hearts of the world’s leaders – please continue to speak to them. Encourage us to pray for those in authority. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.
