Five Minute Friday – Afraid

Afraid

In the past, before I came to really experience God through Jesus, FEAR was a major factor in my life. I feared for my family, for my health, and safety while driving. Fear held me and made me a controlling person. I felt if I could hold everything together then all would be okay.

But I found out that Christ holds everything together.

“He [Christ] is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17, NIV).

And I found out Satan likes to make me fearful to rob me of the joy of my day. With Jesus I know that He will always be with me.

Read the first Scripture I memorized:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Colossian 4:5-7).

Satan  still tries to make me fearful. I have to know how to battle that fear. One of the best books I have read on this is Grace Fox’s Moving From Fear to Freedom. Grace gives practical advice on how to wage the war against fear.

Learning to live in Christ’s freedom has set me on a different path. God is pushing me in different directions because I know that even though I don’t think I can do something that God can. And that He wants to reveal Himself.

How better to show God than through my weakness?

I may be weak but I fight the fear because there is no fear in those who belong to Jesus.

My post How do You Combat Fear? offers more on this topic.

Blessings,

Janis

Very true Janis, because of Christ we can fight the fear. Then, we can rest in Jesus. And what a beautiful truth: “How better to show God than through my weakness?” This is my desire. Blessings. 🙂

Thank you for your visit and comment over at One part Joy – One part circus! Great scriptures to go along with your post! “God is pushing me in different directions because I know that even though I don’t think I can do something that God can. And that He wants to reveal Himself.” I have been learning this very thing this year… it’s hard and exciting all at the same time!!

There is GOOD fear (fear the Lord) and the flight or fight fear we feel when we come upon a mama bear in the woods – with a baby! AND there is bad fear – fear of anything that the Lord can and will take and carry for us… I have written articles about this and so enjoyed yours!

Perfect Love (Jesus) will cast out all FEAR…. Wow. Rich

      Marijo,
I totally agree – Fear – reverence to a all powerful all knowing God – is good. And fear in knowing how to be safe is good too. It is that bad fear that Satan lays upon us that can bring destruction to our souls.
      Blessings,
      Janis

Thanks for commenting over on my post from Dream Again. I too thought on that verse when I saw Lisa-Jo’s word: Afraid. But my mind also went to to Psalm 23.
    I appreciated this:
‘I may be weak but I fight the fear because there is no fear in those who belong to Jesus.’
    Thank you

      Rebekah,
Loved the Dream Again… I do wish I had seen it sooner. But let us go forward dreaming all that we can when we know that God is always with us.
      Blessings,
      Janis

It’s so wonderful knowing that I don’t have to rely on my own strength to accomplish anything. I am nothing without Him. So thankful that He’s come with His light to remove my fears.

      Barbie,
For sure – it makes life more joyful, and relaxing when we don’t have to “do” everything in our own strength.
      Blessings,
      Janis

Visiting from FMF: “I know that even though I don’t think I can do something that God can.” I really liked this. What an incredibly helpful thought in overcoming our fears.
