Finish – Word for 2017

Finish – Word for 2017

It is December 13 and I am writing this post. We head back to Canada tomorrow and will return before you have read this post. Find out below how I came to pick the word “finish” for My Word for 2017.

I have been working hard at listening to God’s Word and painting in my Bible journal the pictures He is showing me. I work at promoting my children’s books. I have new opportunities I want to check out.

Last year my Word for 2016 reads:

finish finish

It was from 2 Corinthians 9:8 –

God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done. As one psalmist puts it (The Message).

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work (NIV).

I found my Word – Finish – for 2017 this week. It is from Psalm 138:8 (tweet this).

This verse spoke to me:

The Lord will vindicate me;
    your love, Lord, endures forever—
do not abandon the works of your hands (NIV).

Finish what you started in me, God.
Your love is eternal—don’t quit on me now (The Message).

As I was finishing off this post I drew a Bible Journal picture on Day 25 – Christmas Day – Romans 8:14-15). I now have another word to go with Finish – GO. God will finish what He started in me and I will go where He calls.

My Word for 2017 is Finish.

finish

God is leading me in many directions. I am not sure which ones He wants me to follow but I am listening. I know He has plans.

Finish

But I must stop and listen so He can continue to work in my life (tweet this).

For that reason I will no longer be doing Word of God speak Linkup. I need to be freer to follow His lead. Although I have loved setting this up and meeting wonderful bloggers, my readership has not grown in the past year. I believe that is because I am hemmed in and not able to do it “His Way”. I think I will meet more of you as I travel and comment around the blogosphere.

So I am crying out to the Lord and asking to do it “His way”. I may not blog some weeks – others I may blog 2 or 3 times – depending on what He tells me.

I need Him to finish what He has started in the past few months (tweet this).

Here is a poem I wrote while studying this verse.

Your Plans

Lay out Your plan
Nudge me in the way I should go
Clear a path before me
Steady me.

Cascade lights before me
To show me the way
Beam them brightly
So I can see.

Speak in a distinctive voice
So I can distinguish You among the cacophony of noise
Your words mean more than all the noise around me
Make it clear, Lord.

Unlock the doors that lead me onward
Unfetter any chains that bind
Cast me out amid the lions
As long as You are by my side.

@Janis Cox December 2016

For this reason I will work on reading His Word – I study it, paint it sometimes, write or podcast about it. Maybe I will speak it live.

I will continue to podcast for Hope Stream Radio. I want to reach 100 – I am at 72. And then we’ll see where God leads me from there.

This is what I feel He is telling me on December 13 as I work through the Dress for Dunamis fundraising. Praying for a shelter for these girls. Praying for their protection. Check out the post.

This is my 30th day wearing a dress, Dress for Dunamis, to advocate against human trafficking. It’s also the 30th day of painting in my Bible the verses about how we can pray against this evil.

Jesus JOY – Where are you? Advent 3

Jesus JOY – Where are you? Advent 3 and Linkup

This week has been full – full of good things. But sometimes a little hectic too. Where do I find Jesus joy? Today I light the third candle in Advent – Joy.

Jesus Joy

Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full (John 16:24)

Jesus Joy

Life is. Life happens. How I go about my life is how I see it – How I see it, view and live it.

I am not talking about the bubbly joy that comes sometimes, or the excited joy when I see family, or the exuberant joy I get when I dance. It is the joy that Christ gives me that keeps me going and going. That joy can only be found in Jesus. When I focus on Him and let Him lead there is a wonderful feeling of “rightness”. It doesn’t mean I’m happy, or giggling or smiling. I’m just okay. I’m just all right.

Joy is my Rock because Jesus is my Rock. (tweet this)

My acronym for JOY is Jesus Opens You. (tweet this)

Jesus JOY

Jesus JOYJesus Joy

And He does. I can’t tell you how He does this. But when I am not striving, or full of my agenda, He brings life to me; He shows me things to do and I do them. He gives me the time, the inspiration and the fulfillment.

No one need be poor, because, if he chooses, he can have Jesus for his own property and possession. No one need be downcast for Jesus is the joy of heaven and it is His joy to enter into sorrow hearts. ~ Tozer

I am grabbing hold of this joy – and as Tozer says, “it is not a doctrine to be held, it is a life to be enjoyed every moment of every day.”

Today is rest today. I am going to end with a series of pictures of the past couple of weeks.

Have a Jesus-filled, joy-filled life.

Dress for Dunamis – Heart 4

Wear a Dress – Dress for Dunamis – Dress for Dignity

NOTE: Although the wearing a dress for a month to advocate against “human trafficking” has ended for this year, we continue to fundraise for the shelter in Ecuador. A mission team is leaving in February 2017.

It’s been an interesting week to say the least. My heart this week heads to compassion – compassion for the hurting, the lost, and the lonely. It hurts for those abused – and particularly those abused by human trafficking. My goal is to get the word out – to tell the world to stop this travesty. We want to dress for Dunamis (or men can wear a bow tie). A symbol of the dignity of women.

By the way I can be a woman in a pair of pants or a house coat. But a dress starts a conversation and that’s what we need – conversations about human trafficking. It’s an evil that is hidden.

Dunamis

Watercolour by Janis Cox

In the New Testament dumanis is used 120 times. It is mostly used for God’s power.

And it will be God’s power (dunamis) that can bring about change. (tweet this)

So prayer is the most important thing that I ask of you. Pray and pray some more. (Tweet this)

The Dunamis Foundation in Quito, Ecuador, founded by Boris Salinas and his wife Fernanda has become the object of my heart this year. Check out their website here. My friend, Sandy Stevens, has met these two national missionaries and they came to the Lighthouse Church in our little town of Haliburton this fall. Knowing what I do about the sex trade and trafficking from my research last year, I knew God had called me this year to reach out and help this group.

In Ecuador 25 000 women are involved in prostitution, of which 5200 are girls and teenagers. (tweet this)

That statement hurts. It really hurts. My soul cries out to God – Stop this!!!

I am happy that God put it on the hearts of these Ecuadorian missionaries to start this foundation.

Will you join me? Start a group in your town or city. Wear a dress. Talk about human trafficking. Make people aware. Email me for further information. Janis Cox (tweet this)

The missionaries work with the girls to build their self-esteem. One way is to create bracelets and sell them. The girls get to keep the money.

The Toronto Star last year wrote an excellent article about local Canadian girls in Toronto snared into the sex trade. You can find it here – Beaten, Bought and Sold.

Let us remember to keep our hearts warm and listen to God’s Word so we can act when He calls.

Psalm 82:2-4 in The Message

“Enough! You’ve corrupted justice long enough,
you’ve let the wicked get away with murder.
You’re here to defend the defenseless,
    to make sure that underdogs get a fair break;
Your job is to stand up for the powerless,
and prosecute all those who exploit them.”
