THE STILLNESS OF SUNDAY – Can you be still before the LORD?

Be Still Before the Lord – Can you do that?

I know I have trouble being still. It takes concentration and discipline.

I wrote about this in QUIET.

today, I read about how to “quieten the clamouring voices” in my mind (from Quiet by Janis Cox).

How is your “mental racket”? (tweet this)

Try to take a few minutes today to quieten yourself before the Lord.

IN THE STILLNESS

In the stillness I wait

I wait and I listen

Breathe in the breath of God

Focus on Jesus

He comes

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth (Psalm 46:10, NIV).”

Prayer:

In the stillness, Lord, we know we can find You. Help us to take a few minutes to wait for you in the quiet. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

What techniques do you use to help you be still before the Lord? (tweet this)

  1. Yes – the importance of calming ourselves down and being still. Learning to be still in our heart while we are doing our day to day chores. Learning to be still in our heart while we are out and about. It helps me to know that God is everywhere with me. And then there are those moments where – I do need to stop moving and be still. I get to know God more when I look at paintings, flowers, or sit by a lake. I get to know God when I drive through open land and fields of corn. I get to know God up in the mountains. I appreciate your post Janis. Your words inspire me to slow down and calm my heart. It feels pretty noisy in my head lately.

  2. I just read the Five Minute Friday post on “Quiet.” How wonderful that the Lord kept bringing you ideas on the them of quiet and stillness! We all want that feeling of peace and calmness, but have trouble slowing down our busy, distracted minds.

your neighbor at Lisha Epperson’s link up, too

  3. Janis, Lately I do have quite a “racket” going on in my mind. It seems I don’t have a second to spare for anything.

Thank you for the gentle reminder that in quietness and stillness, Jesus is found.

It is a blessing to be part of this link-up community. 🙂

    1. Thanks Michele,
It does take time to get settled. A couple of leaks, a dead battery, food shopping, and adjusting to time change. But wanting to listen more to God in the direction He wants me to take.
      Blessings,
      Janis

  4. Great post, Janis! Taking the time to be still before THE LORD is so vital. Thanks so much for sharing! Blessed to visit and link-up with you tonight. GOD bless you, beautiful friend! 🙂

    1. Joanne,
As long as we are listening to God about what He wants us to do that is great. But He really just wants us – full devotion – end of story.
      Blessings,
      janis

I love to connect with you.
