THE STILLNESS OF SUNDAY – Can you be still before the LORD?

Be Still Before the Lord – Can you do that?

I know I have trouble being still. It takes concentration and discipline.

I wrote about this in QUIET.

today, I read about how to “quieten the clamouring voices” in my mind (from Quiet by Janis Cox).

How is your “mental racket”? (tweet this)

Try to take a few minutes today to quieten yourself before the Lord.

IN THE STILLNESS

In the stillness I wait

I wait and I listen

Breathe in the breath of God

Focus on Jesus

He comes

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth (Psalm 46:10, NIV).”

Prayer:

In the stillness, Lord, we know we can find You. Help us to take a few minutes to wait for you in the quiet. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

What techniques do you use to help you be still before the Lord? (tweet this)

Sunday Stillness – What are you wearing?

Sunday Stillness – What are you wearing?

This week, the phrase “clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ” keeps going through my mind.

What-are-you-wearing--Romans-13-14

Romans 13:14 says:

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

How can we clothe ourselves in Jesus? I have 4 thoughts.

  1. Read your Bible every day.
  2. Pray often.
  3. Join with others to learn more about following Jesus.
  4. Be grateful all the time.

Also watch out for those deceivers.

One of my favourite songs is Put on a Garment of Praise, sung by Robin Mark.

Put on the garments of praise, for the spirit of heaviness;
Let the oil of gladness flow down from your throne!
Put on the garments of praise, for the spirit of heaviness;
Your joy is my strength alone, my strength alone!

Make these broken weary bones rise to dance again,
Wet this dry and thirsty land with a river!
Lord our eyes are fixed on you and we are waiting,
For your garland of grace as we praise your name!

(chorus)

Hallelujah, sing hallelujah!
We give all honor and praise to your name!
Hallelujah, sing hallelujah!
We trade our sorrows for garments of praise!

Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

Sunday Stillness – Solitude

Sunday Stillness – Solitude

Solitude

I love to meet God in the stillness of the morning. When I sit still – yes, still.

I didn’t used to be able to sit still. During the day I go, go and go some more. But I believe I have the energy to do that because I do sit still every morning – for prayer, study and just being with God.

The first time I tried to sit still I lasted five minutes. It’s amazing how one can learn the discipline of sitting still.

And solitude doesn’t bother me as much as it used to. I would always crave someone to talk to. I have that friend now, Jesus is His Name. No matter where I go, He is always there with me.

Therefore I am never alone in my solitude. (Tweet this)

Solitude and silence is an opportunity to focus on your Intimacy with Jesus, to unhook from your daily responsibilities and the people you interact with, in order to attend to the Lord alone (Soul Shepherding).

Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10, NIV).

Today is Sunday Stillness.

I would love it if you would subscribe to my blog. See the sidebar to enter your email address.

Read the Sunday Stillness rules if you are new here.

I would appreciate if you would link only about God’s Word. If you have a linky party that’s okay if it is about the same thing. Please no sales or prizes. I want this to be friendly but I must ask you to abide by the rules. Others want to read God’s Word – and that is what I would like the links to be about. I must take down the links that don’t follow the rules. Thanks so much.
