THE UNSPOKEN PRAYER

The Unspoken Prayer

by Jan Cox

Remember when we were kids and our parents would try to persuade us to eat foods that would keep our bodies healthy? As we grew older we realized this as wise counsel.

The Holy Spirit also tells us the wise way – God’s way – in all situations, to keep our spirits healthy.

Once we are filled with the Holy Spirit by accepting Jesus, we become a conduit to God. Even though we are not in the conscious mode of prayer, God can hear our spiritual cries. We can talk to God without being conscious of it.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” (Romans 8:26 NIV).

While reading Oswald Chambers this morning this started to sink into my being.

“”He,” the Spirit in you, “maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God,” and God searches your heart not to know what your conscious prayers are, but to find out what is the prayer of the Holy Spirit”” (Oswald Chambers, November 8).

This whole new revelation makes me understand at a new level how important it is for me to keep myself – God’s temple, His house – holy. I must keep my body undefiled as Jesus said:

“It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’[a] but you are making it a ‘den of robbers’” (Matthew 21:13 NIV).

So – if God is hearing me through the Holy Spirit – I want to keep this temple healthy so He can hear me.

Even though God will look at the unconscious part of us, we must keep the conscious part free of unholy stuff. That is our responsibility.

Let’s listen to our Holy Father and keep ourselves free of anything that can tarnish our holiness – because this vessel is His Holy House and I want Him welcome anytime.

And I am also extremely thankful that God can hear my unconscious desires – the ones that are deeper and closer to God. In that way He can lead me and guide me when I don’t even consciously know where I want to be or go.

Does this all make sense? What are your thoughts? Are there two places that God can hear me? Email me with your thoughts.

Prayer:

What a wonderful notion that You hear my inner most spiritual thoughts! When I can’t speak my prayers – I can know You know my heart. Thank You for this gift of unspoken prayer. In Jesus name I pray. AMEN.
