Is this the Time for Another Revival of the Holy Spirit?

Let’s Pray for Revival

revival

Sometimes writing is hard. Sometimes it’s easy.

I am in a hard spell. There has been a lot going on in my life and I can’t seem to concentrate on sitting still and writing.

But here I am.

This Sunday and last Sunday we had marvellous sermons about Pentecost. Yes, the coming to earth of the Holy Spirit. The fire — the life — the revelation.

We need that again.

In 1734 Jonathan Edwards wrote:

“”It pleased God…to display his free and sovereign mercy in the conversion of a great multitude of souls in a short space of time, turning them from a formal, cold, and careless profession of Christianity, to the lively exercise of every Christian grace, and the powerful practice of our holy religion.”

Free and sovereign mercy — God did this.

We have to remember that God brings revival. So what do we do?

We pray for revival.

Here are the first great revivals.

The Great Awakening, 1734–43 in America

Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield are names from that awakening.

The Second Great Awakening, 1800–1840

James McGready and Charles Finney are names from that awakening.

Is it time for another awakening of hearts and spirits?

Let’s look:

  1. Revivals happen in a period of moral decline. Look at our world: sexual abuse, disgust with those running governments, corruption, killings, and fear. We have screen abuse so we are no longer talking face to face with others. Our reading skills are declining.
  2. Prayer stimulates our hearts and souls and sends a signal to God that we are ready to see Him in action.
  3. Those who teach from God’s Word are speaking into the hearts of the people.

Are you ready for revival?
Do you want to see God’s spirit move in hearts?
Are you ready to be convicted and see yourself as God sees you? (That’s scary.)

I always love this song by Robin Mark. Revive Us.

God has put it on my heart to gather believers together, to grow through God’s Word and prayer.

Scriptures to read:

Titus 3:5-6

“He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,”

Isaiah 40:31

“Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”

1 Corinthians 2:4-5

“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.”

Teamwork – Week3Blog Holiday

Teamwork – Week3Blog Holiday

It’s all about teamwork. That’s what I learned this year at VBS. For the first time I worked with others and felt the spirit of teamwork. Other years I had help but I had to oversee everything. This year we worked together and I let the spirit lead me in everything I did. It felt marvellous.

Three things I learned:

1. Prayer:

Every morning during camp, God woke me at 5 or 5:30 (a little earlier than normal) to have time to spend with Him. Every morning our team prayed together before camp. This is teamwork with God and others.

Teamwork

2. We sang:

Our songs helped me as well as the children remember to have faith in Jesus.

Choose Jesus, John 3:16, I’m Keeping my Eyes on Jesus, My God is so big, (and others as well). I am still singing those songs.

3. Change is okay:

Even though I had a “plan”, I was able to change it as the needs changed. It felt great to follow the Holy Spirit.

What a great week!

Don’t Criticize – #WOGSLinkup

Who likes to be criticized? No one that I know. So don’t criticize.

Don't criticize

Today I looked at Matthew 7:1.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged.

I love these quotes from Oswald Chambers:

In the spiritual domain nothing is accomplished by criticism.

The Holy Ghost is the only One in the true position to criticize. He alone is able to show what is wrong without hurting or wounding.

This ties in well with the past few weeks.

don't criticize

Don't criticizze

I will be continuing to give you this space to link your wonderful posts but I am going on a blogging holiday for the summer. This week I attend Write!Canada a conference but on by The Word Guild which is for writers and editors who are Christian. I have a Vacation Bible School to run in the first week of July. And my new children’s book has been released. As I write this I am waiting for the books to arrive.

Scripture and a Picture – How to be Free

Scripture and a Picture – How to be Free

John 3:5

I have been painting into my Bible for the past few weeks. I am finding that as I do that I really remember the scripture I am studying. I bought some Bibles at the local thrift store, so I have many to choose from.

Now I am trying to frame the verse before I paint, in order to be able to check the verse for the picture.

As I started to paint John 3:5 it felt like the Lord was pressing upon me the availability of His Spirit. Every week we seem to be focusing either on the UNSEEN, or the Spirit of God.

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

The first thing I noted are the words from Jesus, ” I tell you the truth”. Jesus says that phrase may times in His Word. The truth is what He came to teach us because

The truth will set us free.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:32, NIVUK).

I listened to a program on Huntley Street the other day. They were interviewing Brian McConaghy. He said that when they found these young girls in Cambodia, some as young as 5 years of age who had suffered in the sex trade, that he did not hold out much hope for their rehabilitation.

However, through the power of Christ these young girls are now confident faith-filled women.

Here is the page with the interview. I urge to watch it.

  Cambodia Cries Out

That’s amazing to me – that they could endure such abuse, and still be able to put it behind them and live joyful lives.

That’s what Christ can give us – an inexpressible and glorious joy, for we are receiving the goal of our faith, the salvation of our souls. (based on 1 Peter 1:8-9).

Peace, contentment, and joy through ALL situations.

That is something to remember.

We are born of water and the Spirit.

Now we are free.

Prayer:

Oh Heavenly Father, I struggle to understand what happens to these girls. I struggle to understand how anyone could do what they do to abuse them. I just plain struggle. I feel overwhelmed and very insignificant. Please help me to help them. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Word of God Speak – How to Accept God’s Grace

Word of God Speak – How to Accept God’s Grace

Last week our Scripture was 2 Corinthians 3:17

Now, the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

I looked at this Scripture in three different ways:

Word of God Speak –

Using the SIMPLE Method of Bible study I came to the notion that God was leading me to be proactive against human trafficking. I joined with Ratanak International to try to bring awareness against this travesty. I am wearing a dress every day to remind me to pray, and to speak to whomever God puts in my path about human trafficking.

Scripture and a Picture –

On Tuesdays I looked at this scripture again and thought of freedom. I captured the thought of Christians catching the football of faith and running with it. The Holy Spirit can bring a freedom that breaks us free of this world.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18

Hope Stream Podcast

On Wednesdays I look at the Scripture again. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. I talk about birth and expectancy and how it can be compared to the expectancy of Christmas. Here is the Podcast Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. Click on #38.

John 3-5 Holy spirit

That brings us to this week’s Scripture. Using the SIMPLE Bible Study Method I try to see what God is saying to me in HIs Word.

S – Say the passage out loud.

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit (John 3:5 NIV).”

I find it interesting that my NIV Bible is always a little different than Biblegateway.com even if I check the NIV or the NIVUK. So I use the one in my Bible.

I – Look at footnotes, commentaries, references.

I found Titus 3:5 helpful.

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

I read that baptism was an outward sign of an inward work of grace achieved by the Holy Spirit.

M – Make a list of questions, thoughts.

I have always wondered about baptism – children, adult, different denominations have different interpretations.

I grew up where there was infant baptism and then confirmation at the age of 16. When I came to a renewed faith in Christ in 2001, I wanted to be baptized through immersion as a declaration of my faith. I chose a lake in our county. It was definitely an outward sign as the Lord had already changed my heart inside.

P – Prayer. Take the time to be quiet before God. Still your mind. Let everything go out of your head except Christ.

As usual this is always an interesting time. He shows me pictures, ideas and convictions.

L – Life Application – What did God teach me?

I saw a picture of God in the Holy of Holies – beyond us all. Then I saw Him coming down and how He made Himself able to come into our lives through the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirt alive and active inside us, we can now connect to our Lord.

But I also saw those who don’t know God. I thought, “What does it take for the Spirit to move in the hearts of men? in my family? in my friends?

It is such a simple acceptance of God’s grace.

But I remember before I took that leap of faith, being prideful, and stubborn. So it takes the power of the Holy Spirit to break through our tough skin.

We have to realize that we cannot earn or win anything from God through our own efforts (Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest).

It is only when we get hungry spiritually that we receive the Holy Spirit (Oswald Chambers).

Jesus can take that which was beyond us, and place it in us (though the Holy Spirit) and rise us up to be with God.

E- Exit with a Prayer

Father, I thank you so much for showing me Who You are, for bringing me into the fold, for shepherding me. I pray for those Who don’t know. I ask that You lead them to Yourself. Help me to speak love, hope, joy and peace to all I meet. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

This week on Hope Stream Radio I talk about our Scripture of the week – 1 Peter 1:8-9, HCSB.

Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and we are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Scripture and a Picture – How Can the Holy Spirit Help Us to Snatch and Catch?

Scripture and a Picture – How Can the Holy Spirit Help Us to Snatch and Catch?

Last weekend as I looked at my Scripture  to memorize for this week, God moved me from one Scripture to another and I ended up picking 1 Peter 1:8-9, HCSB to memorize for this week.

You love Him, though you have not seen Him. And though not seeing Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:9

While I listened to God I heard the word, “catch”. My mind instantly went to football, catching the ball and running with it towards the goal.

Because of my fascination with the word “catch” I looked it up on line in Greek. There were 2 meanings that interested me.

agreuó – original word -ἀγρεύω  (Strongs 64) means catch and capture

harpazó  –  original word -ἁρπάζω (Strongs 726) means to snatch

For the first one – capture. I see this as CATCH HIS FIRE, His Holy Spirit. And we can do that as we read His Word.

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us (Luke 24:32, NIV)?”

For the second one – snatch. I see us snatching ourselves and others out of the fire.

Be merciful to those who doubt;  save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh (Jude 1:22-23, NIV).

I found two other instances of the word “snatch” – snatching from the fire. Amos 4:11 and Zechariah 3:2-5.

I believe we are called to be disciples of men (as in human beings). As we grow in God’s Word, we become stronger in our faith and can help others along the way.

As we run the race, clutching onto the Holy Spirit, dodging the world’s traps, we can also reach out to others and help them towards the goal, too.

As we memorize God’s Word, the Holy Spirit works in us to teach and change us. He also brings people into our paths whom we can encourage.

Prayer:

Father, Help us to learn Your Word. Help us not only to memorize but chew on it until it becomes part of who we are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks to Free Digital Photos. Net

This will be my first Sunday in Poland.

Not sure of timing and Internet capabilities so I am posting this before I go away. Please enjoy my post and link to #SundayStillness below.

I love this quote from Oswald Chambers.

Belief in Jesus is a miracle produced only by the effectiveness of redemption, not by impressive speech, nor by wooing and persuading, but only by the sheer unaided power of God. (Oswald Chambers, July 17th).

He talks about being humble of Spirit; of not worrying about how we sound; how to preach by believing in the Holy Spirit to carry you through.

I pray that I can do that during these two weeks while I speak to campers; answer questions; support them in their needs. There should be nothing of me – when I speak the Gospel.

The preacher is there as the representative of God— “. . . as though God were pleading through us . . .” (2 Corinthians 5:20). He is there to present the gospel of God.

When I am asked I pray that God gives me the words He needs me to say. Not my words – but His.

Prayer:

As I head out on the mission field I ask for strength, stamina and good health for the whole team and the campers. May the Holy Spirit fill us so much that our words are not our own. May we be Christ in all we say and do. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.
