A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT

A Word of Encouragement

by Mary Haskett

Have you ever been spiritually dry? That’s how I describe it when I can’t get enthused about praying and can’t seem to concentrate. What a blessing to read His word and learn how we can overcome negative thoughts or sad incidences that have engulfed us.

Think about Scriptures that urge us to pray whatever the circumstance. 1 Thessalonians 16-18 may seem like a tall order when the going is tough. Paul, Silas and Timothy wrote encouragement to the new Christians in Thessalonica with these words:

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (NIV).

We are not to pray only when we feel like it, but to pray always with joy. It is a marvelous experience to start praying when you are in that dry zone, to stick with it, to talk to God, to focus and then feel the doldrums lift. God created us with emotions and He tells us how to experience joy. Today I have determined when I am at my computer writing, when I walk around the block later on, and when I prepare dinner I will pray continually and with joy.

Be encouraged in your heart and be assured God is listening to your prayers. He loves us all. Praise His Holy Name.
