Lover of Socks

A few weeks ago I tried to tell my husband that he used to be a … an … afish… afishian.. a fish in ando? What is that word? I tried to tell him that he used to really love grapes with a passion but I couldn’t find the word I wanted. So we both looked it up and how to spell it.
Dictionary meaning for aficionado:
a person who likes, knows about, and appreciates a usually fervently pursued interest or activity
Synonyms:
addict, fan buff, bug, devotee, enthusiast, fanatic, fancier, fiend, fool, freak, lover, maniac
Someone else in our family is an aficionado for socks. Yes, Snowball, our little malt-poo loves socks – any sock, anywhere, anytime. If she can find one she wants it. It is hard to put on socks as she loves to jump at them. Yesterday she took off with one and this time she hid under the bed. She KNOWS she shouldn’t do it but she is incapable of stopping herself. Such is her passion for socks. It is fun for her but very frustrating for us (funny too). So off to obedience classes in the New Year.
This made me think of myself. Am I an aficionado and if so for what? I found lots of things:
I started to make a list:
- Write and think about what to write
- Walk and dance
- Paint
- Read God’s Word
- Talk about God
- Teach about God
I have two life verses. Jesus spoke both of them:
“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing” (John 14:12 NIV).
“Feed my lambs” (John 21:15 NIV).
I think I haven’t been doing a bad job concentrating on my passions. But now I believe I need to pray about this and about my verses, so God can be part of this or can show me what to do and what not to do.
My prayer:
Father, You made me. You have guided me thus far. Continue to help me to feed your lambs and to do what Jesus did. I need Your guidance and vision to be Your feet. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.
What do you have a passion for? What do you like and appreciate above all else? Do your passions line up with the plan that God has for your life? Do you pray for His help and guidance to make the most of your passion for His purpose?
