How Do I Rest my Soul?
by Rose Harmer
‘He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he restores my soul (mind)” (Ps. 23:2 KJV).
“He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He gives me new strength” (Ps. 23:2,3 TLB).
As I glimpse the tranquility of nature in this picture, I am reminded to go to a place like that when my mind gets cluttered with the problems of life and my eyes see the garbage dumps of life. We can journey with God to these secret places as we picture them in our mind. The Lord is our constant companion but too often we visualize Him far up in the heavens and not in our daily lives – walking and talking with us. Yet, when we have asked Him to be our Saviour, Guide and Friend, He is truly ever with us.
A passage from one of my favourite hymns which describes this is:
“I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses,
And he walks with me, and he talks with me,
And he tells me I am his own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known” (Public Domain).
Here is Anne Murray singing He Walks With Me.
The joys can be with you today as you take some quiet time, imaging a beautiful garden, green grass and a babbling small stream with the Lord Jesus Christ coming to be with you. He will tell you He loves you very much.
