Who Am I? – Creative Tuesdays

The prompt this week at Creative Tuesdays is Meet Me. I will try to show you the answer to “Who Am I?”

Who Am I?

Meet Me – Watercolour Pencil – 2016

The idea here is to list a few items you like and dislike or some variation thereof (by Creative Tuesdays).

I struggled with this one for the last two weeks and finally worked on it yesterday under the title, Who Am I? I don’t like portraits and doing a self-portrait was even harder. I used a micron pen 01 and watercolour pencil and a light weight paper. Next time I would use heavier paper.

That of course reminded me of Jesus asking the disciples, “who am I?”,

“Who do people say I am?” …

[And then], “Who do you say I am (Mark 8:27-29, NIV)?”

As I have been reading through the scriptures for this time of Lent, this question keeps coming up. Who is Jesus? The religious leaders are trying to discredit Jesus. They want to keep the status quo. They want to keep their power. So they ask Jesus all sorts of questions to trap Him. Here are two cases.

Case One:

On Saturday at Word of God Speak we looked at Mark 11:27-33

The religious leaders are trying to trap Jesus. They really are asking Who He is:

“By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you authority to do this?”

Case Two:

On Sunday at church we looked at Mark 12:13-17.

Here they are trying to trap Jesus again by asking about whether the Jewish people should pay tax to Caesar.

Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

In the first case Jesus will not give an answer because the leaders couldn’t answer His question.

Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

In the second case Jesus gave a divinely inspired answer.

Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

I find it interesting that the leaders of the Jewish people couldn’t see Jesus as God’s Son – the Christ. They were blinded by their arrogance and their wish for power and control.

Sometimes I forget that I have let Jesus be in control of my life and I try to wrestle control back from Him. Thank goodness I study His Word every day to remind me that He is in control.

Pastor Thiemke said on Sunday:

We must give to God what is rightfully His – our entire life. (tweet this)

If you haven’t met my Jesus I would love to tell you more about Him. Email me anytime and we can talk.
