Who am I? – Creative Tuesdays

Who Am I? – Creative Tuesdays

The prompt this week at Creative Tuesdays is Meet Me. I will try to show you the answer to “Who Am I?”

Who Am I?

Meet Me – Watercolour Pencil – 2016

The idea here is to list a few items you like and dislike or some variation thereof (by Creative Tuesdays).

I struggled with this one for the last two weeks and finally worked on it yesterday under the title, Who Am I? I don’t like portraits and doing a self-portrait was even harder. I used a micron pen 01 and watercolour pencil and a light weight paper. Next time I would use heavier paper.

That of course reminded me of Jesus asking the disciples, “who am I?”,

“Who do people say I am?” …

[And then], “Who do you say I am (Mark 8:27-29, NIV)?”

As I have been reading through the scriptures for this time of Lent, this question keeps coming up. Who is Jesus? The religious leaders are trying to discredit Jesus. They want to keep the status quo. They want to keep their power. So they ask Jesus all sorts of questions to trap Him. Here are two cases.

Case One:

On Saturday at Word of God Speak we looked at Mark 11:27-33

The religious leaders are trying to trap Jesus. They really are asking Who He is:

“By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you authority to do this?”

Case Two:

On Sunday at church we looked at Mark 12:13-17.

Here they are trying to trap Jesus again by asking about whether the Jewish people should pay tax to Caesar.

Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

In the first case Jesus will not give an answer because the leaders couldn’t answer His question.

Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

In the second case Jesus gave a divinely inspired answer.

Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

I find it interesting that the leaders of the Jewish people couldn’t see Jesus as God’s Son – the Christ. They were blinded by their arrogance and their wish for power and control.

Sometimes I forget that I have let Jesus be in control of my life and I try to wrestle control back from Him. Thank goodness I study His Word every day to remind me that He is in control.

Pastor Thiemke said on Sunday:

We must give to God what is rightfully His – our entire life. (tweet this)

If you haven’t met my Jesus I would love to tell you more about Him. Email me anytime and we can talk.

Restore your life – Are deceivers blinding You to God’s purpose for your life?

What’s keeping you from following your purpose?

Are you looking to restore your life and purpose? What is distracting you?

Of course, I start with a prayer for God to open the Scripture to me.

S – Say the passage aloud.

They must be silenced because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach – and that for the sake of dishonest gain (Titus 1:11, NIVUK).

I – Identify the characters, the setting, and the circumstances surrounding this passage.

Since we have been following Titus verse by verse, if you are new here, you will need to go back to the beginning to better understand the characters, setting and circumstances.

Continuing from the last verse from last week:

They = mere talkers and deceivers

These deceivers are teaching things they ought not to teach.

M- Make a list of the thoughts, questions and ideas.

So how do we silence them? Everyone is involved – whole households. I wonder who the “they” were in Paul’s day. Were they people who knew God but started their own ideas? Or were they people who wanted to have people follow them – for the sake of dishonest gain. So they pretended to be “like” the apostles but without the sound doctrine of Jesus.

Were they Jewish rabbis who were following so closely to the rules they forgot to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with their God? (Micah 6:8) Remember Jesus got very angry when they turned the temple into a marketplace – Church is supposed to be a House of God.

I look at all that can deceive us. There is plenty. We have so much vying for our attention – TV, videos, movies, social media, sellers, Facebook ads, – all taking us on rabbit trails (some good some bad).

This all reminded me of Satan’s Letter.

What takes us away from the TRUTH – that we follow Jesus? Are we holding firmly to the trustworthy message as we have learned it from Jesus? (Titus 1:9)

P – Pray again for God’s guidance.

Make sure when you do this study that you take time for this step. Otherwise we are thinking our own thoughts and can be led astray.

L- Life – How can I apply what I have been studying to my life?

Deceivers come looking like goodness but they are covered up and we can’t see the truth behind them. Remember Satan is the devil in disguise. I chose the icon because Satan can  come looking like a Valentine.

the two greatest dangers to … the Kingdom of God, come from two directions, money and power… Money and power crucified Christ (E. Stanley Jones).

This reminded me again of the course by Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace. We need to get a handle on money so it doesn’t get a handle on us.

I wanted to look at all the areas of my life – all of them. Where could I be deceived?

Here is what I discovered.

POWER

That is self. I struggle with self sometimes, many times. I have to keep asking myself, am I going this for God or me?

SOCIAL MEDIA

I must watch how much time I spend on this. Which one should I focus on?

PROCRASTINATION

Of course I do what I like to do first, or what is most pressing. But maybe I need to stop and ask God where I need to focus my attention for that time?

ACTIVITIES/STUFF

God is really speaking to me about this. Is there something else I need to lay down?

About 10 years ago I heard my LIFE VERSE, “feed my lambs”. I have been trying to do this but I do go on rabbit trails. That is why this year my goal is to be Intentional to Restore my focus on God.

So in December I decided to stop writing for Inscribe, stop Under the Cover of Prayer, stop Family and Faith Matters.

I picked up being a contributor to Hope Stream Radio each Tuesday. I hope you listen to this wonderful online radio station.

And I keep hearing, do Sunday Stillness.

Of course then there are projects I need to still work on this. Which ones?

E – Exit the passage with a prayer for God to help you.

Lord, all of the things I am involved in are good things but they may not be where you want me to spend my time. Help me to wrestle through this. I am asking for clarification of the truth – the real road. Please point me in the right direction. Help me to learn the best way to “feed your lambs”. Help me clearly see and hear the deceivers. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

SIMPLY SATURDAY – Wonder

Simply Saturday – Wonder

Piggy-backing on The Gypsy Mama’s post from yesterday – Topic: Wonder

I have five minutes to write about “wonder”.

Here goes:

I always wonder about the Holy Spirit. I think of how incredibly wonderful it is that we can feel and know God through the Holy Spirit.

Forty days after Jesus had left this earth, at Pentecost, He unleashed His Spirit on the earth. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord.

A few times in my life I have been touched by His Spirit. Powerful experiences.

And many times the Holy Spirit helps me find the right words in a situation. I haven’t been hauled before the police but I still have had the proper words come out of my mouth in tough situations.

“When they drag you into their meeting places, or into police courts and before judges, don’t worry about defending yourselves—what you’ll say or how you’ll say it. The right words will be there. The Holy Spirit will give you the right words when the time comes” (Luke 11-12 The Message).

I wonder, too, what heaven will be like. I don’t want to leave this world or my friends and family. But it is comforting to know that I will be with God. I love this picture of heaven and wonder.

“The main street of the City was pure gold, translucent as glass. But there was no sign of a Temple, for the Lord God—the Sovereign-Strong—and the Lamb are the Temple. The City doesn’t need sun or moon for light. God’s Glory is its light, the Lamb its lamp! The nations will walk in its light and earth’s kings bring in their splendor. Its gates will never be shut by day, and there won’t be any night. They’ll bring the glory and honor of the nations into the City. Nothing dirty or defiled will get into the City, and no one who defiles or deceives. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will get in” (Revelation 21:21-27 The Message).

STOP!

GOD CAN HEAR OUR PRAYERS

God Can Hear Our Prayers (Part I)

Part Two – God Wants to Hear My Prayers (Part II)

Part Three – Why Pray? (Part III)

by Janis Cox

As we forgive those ...

Connecting with God

How can we know that God can hear our prayers?

How can we know that God wants to hear our prayers?

How can we know that God can act on our prayers?

I have been mulling around these questions and hopefully will have answers over the next three Fridays.

Today – question one:

How can we know that God can hear our prayers?

Besides the fact that I just know He does, through my faith  – I have come up with several reasons from Scripture why we can know for sure that He does hear our prayers.

1. The belief in the all encompassing POWER of our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. I love this passage in Colossians:

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:15-17 NIV).

Don’t you just love the phrase – By Him All things were created, and in Him all things hold together? That certainly solidifies it for me. There is POWER here.

2.  The majesty and immensity of our God of creation. After watching the video by Louie Giglio I held my breath.

“This is what God the LORD says— the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it”  (Isaiah 42:5).

Louie’s video shows the universe – to the ends of the universe and what we see when we get to the last picture – is outstanding, gluing all things together for me. God does HOLD ALL things together. We go to the ends of the universe and the Hubble telescope show us – a Cross.

Another video by Louie Giglio (for a quick check go 2:50 minutes in) talks about a cell adhesion molecule called Laminin.

Here is a diagram of the Laminin molecule.

Laminin is vital to making sure overall body structures hold together.

And it is in the shape of a Cross.

Christ does hold ALL things together.

These are two very important reasons why our God can:

  1. Wake me up during my night’s sleep whenever He chooses to call me to prayer, or to rethink my past day.
  2. Put people and incidents in my daily path – God-incidents.
  3. Make miracles happen.

His power is one reason why my prayers are important.

He can call me to pray; He can hear me when I pray; He can answer my prayers.
