Can God Answer Prayers in Traffic?

by Sandi Somers

I drove along Sarcee Trail in Calgary that winter morning, feeling the ice beneath my car. Knowing I had to merge into another busy street, I asked God to make my merge safe. And God did. Red traffic lights further back meant that I entered onto an almost empty street. I breathed thanks, knowing that once more God had provided for me.

The cold, unpredictable winter this year has created hazardous driving conditions. Highways and roads are icy. Blowing snow from sudden storms obscures vision. Rush hour traffic becomes snarled. Accidents are frequent, sometimes with tragic results. The implications for safety are immense.

At times like these I’m so aware that God knows my needs and orchestrates the traffic for my safety—and the safety of others along my route.

God cares about the merges in traffic, the merges in our lives. God cares for every detail of our lives.

Nothing is too small to ask God to care for us. Therefore we can tell him every detail of our needs.

The apostle Paul said it well:

“Don’t worry over anything whatever; tell God every detail of your needs… and the peace of God, which transcends human understanding, will keep constant guard over your hearts and minds as they rest in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, Phillips).

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 112:7

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 112:7

Photo taken by Janis Cox in Arizona 2013.

Must explain that the Scripture in the picture is incorrect. Thanks to Jessica for bringing it to my attention. The Psalm is 104:12.

Oh I was so excited to see this little bird hidden under the trees on our lake. I poked my head down quickly, zoomed in and took the shot – surprise – caught him.

We have many birds that go to this spot – ducks, cranes, and cormorants. Then this little guy – I tried to look him up on the Internet. I can’t find out what kind he is. Does anyone know?

We know from God’s Word that He looks after the birds. They don’t fret about the next meal, or even what their children are doing. Neither should we. As God’s children we are to look after our offspring as much as possible, then trust God to watch over them.

He cares for us – a whole bunch. Do you trust in Him?

Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds (Luke 12:24, NIV)!

Here is a YouTube video of the sounds that birds can make – just like the Scripture above – “They sing among the branches.”

Today is Sunday Stillness.

Do you have a Scripture that spoke to you this week? Please link below. If you post to Twitter use #sundaystillness and @authorjaniscox.

I would love it if you would subscribe to my blog. See the sidebar to enter your email address.

Read the Sunday Stillness rules if you are new here.

I would appreciate if you would link only about God’s Word. If you have a linky party that’s okay if it is about the same thing. Please no sales or prizes. I want this to be friendly but I must ask you to abide by the rules. Others want to read God’s Word – and that is what I would like the links to be about. I must take down the links that don’t follow the rules. Thanks so much.

Please check out all the places I link to during the week. Thanks to everyone who has joined Sunday Stillness. I do try to get to your posts every week but I admit sometimes I don’t have the time.

Can God Really Hear My Prayers?

reprinted from Under the Cover of Prayer by Janis Cox

A while ago I wrote about whether God could hear our prayers. That has been the most popular post for this blog. Obviously people are asking that question. You can read the post, God Can Hear Our Prayers? by clicking on this link.

As we enter the third week of Advent, I want to reemphasize that God CAN hear your prayers. I thought today about the stories of pets, particularly dogs, who travel astonishing distances to find their masters. Their focus and determination and will surmount incredible odds. Their love for their owners makes this possible.

Well I want to tell you that God’s love is even greater. He cares for us so much that He went to great length to get our attention and become close to us.

God went so far as to become one of us. Yes – He sent His Son as a babe to earth to live among us, teach us, befriend us and actually sacrifice Himself for us so we could be eternally with Him. Now that’s LOVE.

We need only look and His love is there.

“Cast all your anxiety upon Him for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV).

Have you asked Him to reveal Himself to you? Just say, “Jesus, reveal Yourself to me”. And He will.

Lord, we know you care. We see it all around us. You leave us wonderstruck. Help us to reach out and seek Your presence in our lives. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.
