Here are a few updates:

I am no longer posting Under the Cover of Prayer posts. At least for the time being God has told me to put this endeavour down. It is like a Sabbath Rest. Thank you to all my contributors for the past 4 years.

You can see all my Contributors from their bios on the Contributors to Under the Cover of Prayer and their individual posts at Under the Cover of Prayer Posts  on the menu.

I am writing once a month for Kimberley Payne’s blog on prayer. Here are my first two posts.

What is Prayer Walking?
Can You Wait in Expectation?

I also write at Family and Faith Matters. Recently I have been on a journey learning more about natural foods. Check out my posts on the changing of my eating habits.

Five Things I Learned During My Blogging Sabbatical

Five Things I Learned During My Blogging Sabbatical

Five-Things-I-Learned-from-my-Blogging-Sabbatical

Welcome to UTCOP’s new home.

Although there might be a few more changes in store for readers – this will be Under the Cover of Prayer’s new home. Praising God for a fairly smooth move – a few hiccups but they were solvable.

What this holiday has done is said so well by Oswald Chambers. My answer is YES.

Is there a freshness and vigour in our spiritual outlook? ~ (Oswald Chambers, May 9th)

There are 5 big things God has shown me in this month of Sabbath Blogging Rest:

Focus

Since my mind is always twirling, whirling, inventing, discussing, questioning … I need to find a way to focus on the task at hand. I always managed before to get all those post up and running (mostly) on time. However, I also was doing too much and going in too many directions. And losing that focus.

God showed me that the focus of what I do and what is important for Him is PRAYER. Yes connecting with Him and showing others how important that is in their lives.

Be Intentional

God also showed me that in order to do this I have to be intentional with my day. So I need a plan. Yes I dread that word. But I am looking for a successful simple way to plan my week. If you know of how to do that please tell me.

I believe God still wants me to write. I have 2 children’s books, one devotional (or Bible study) and a prayer book all in the works. So I need to be intentional so I can finish something. Right?

In being intentional God also told me that I can’t be so stuck on that habit that I forget the Holy Spirit who can interrupt at any time and change my direction. That doesn’t mean a phone call, an email, or a husband wanting to chat. But it does mean that I need to take my head up from my computer at set intervals and check with the world around me.

K.I.S.S. Social Media

Social Media and commenting on blogs are important means to build community. However, I have to learn to make it simple and for it not to overwhelm my day. Once again I need a plan and a timer and remember there is only so much time I can devote to it.

Reach Out to My Online Community

Even though I am behind a screen we have built a community here on line. I would like the opportunity to pray for you. You can use the comment section or email me at UTCOP. I promise to pray for your request.

If you are able I would love you to tell me of your answered prayers.

Reach Out to My Home Community

Yes, when we are squirrelled away behind a screen we might forget the world around us. I know I do. It is easier to sit here and type than to meet the community. My husband does the shopping (and in our small town that is where we meet people). I plan to do one or two trips to town a week just for that purpose – for those God appointments. (I have had a few all ready!)

My summer is community oriented. I joined a Time Outs for Moms, 2x a month. I am running a Vacation Bible School at our church. I am going on my 5th trip to Poland with an Evangelical Camp which teaches English.

Prayer:

Lord thank You for showing me when to stop and regroup. Thank You for showing me so much in the past month. Lord bless all of my readers who are reading this post today. Speak into their hearts and give them wisdom, truth and perseverance to follow You, Jesus. In Your Name, AMEN.

It would be a privilege to pray for you.

Blessings,

Janis

Sunday Stillness – How is your prayer a time capsule?

Every-prayer---time-capsule-Mark-Batterson

As I read The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson I pray more. I see my prayers answered. I see God working. I love this statement that Mark makes in this book:

Every prayer is a time capsule. You never know when or where or how God is going to answer it, but He will answer it (page 204, The Circle Maker).

As I started my faith walk with Jesus I remember someone explain to me that God always answers. The answer may be: YES. NO. or MAYBE.

If you haven’t had an answer of no – then persist in praying. The answer of YES may be just around the bend.

You won’t know if God will answer unless you keep praying.

That’s why prayers are like an incense to our Father – the aroma of our cries, our pleas and our questions. We watch and wait for the answers. That is exciting. But we need to pray in order to get answers.

Our prayers build before the Lord.

Our prayers don’t dissipate over time; our prayers accumulate through eternity (page 204, The Circle Maker).

Join me over at #UTCOP, Under the Cover of Prayer, as we grapple with all facets of talking and listening to God.

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 91 – LOVE

Sunday Stillness – Psalm 91 – LOVE

Psalm-91

Continuing with the love theme for February. Psalm 91 is one that I am saying aloud and praying each day for the whole month. Do you LOVE the Lord?

In Junes 2008 I heard the Lord say to start a prayer blog. I said, “Who me? I am not gifted in praying.”

He replied, “I AM”.

So Under the Cover of Prayer was started because I love the Lord. There have been a few hiccups. Once I became fearful that I couldn’t write as well as my contributors and people would compare my feeble attempts to my more polished writers and those who knew more about prayer. So I stopped writing and just posted their words. One night God convicted me. Oh did I hear Him strongly. You can read about that incident at Under the Cover of Prayer in a post called Convicted at 2am.

But through all the ups and downs of learning to post and seeking contributors and guest bloggers, God has been faithful to send me posts to fill my queue. He always rescues me.

Drop over to Under the Cover of Prayer – seek His Face in a close communion through prayer.

God will rescue us if we call upon Him.

I will call upon the LORD, for he will answer me, give ear to me and hear my prayer (Psalm 17:6, NIV).

Tweetables:

How Can We Be Under the Cover of Prayer?

How Can We Be Under the Cover of Prayer?

cover2web-ready

Each Friday I write at Under the Cover of Prayer. This is a blog I started in June 2o1o. I am blessed to have contributors each week who talk about their experiences with prayer.

Today I talked about answered prayer. God doesn’t always answer the way we want. But He does answer. Drop over to #UTCOP to see my question and His answer.

CAN GOD REALLY HEAR MY PRAYERS?

Can God Really Hear My Prayers?

reprinted from Under the Cover of Prayer by Janis Cox

IMG_0311

A while ago I wrote about whether God could hear our prayers. That has been the most popular post for this blog. Obviously people are asking that question. You can read the post, God Can Hear Our Prayers? by clicking on this link.

As we enter the third week of Advent, I want to reemphasize that God CAN hear your prayers. I thought today about the stories of pets, particularly dogs, who travel astonishing distances to find their masters. Their focus and determination and will surmount incredible odds. Their love for their owners makes this possible.

Well I want to tell you that God’s love is even greater. He cares for us so much that He went to great length to get our attention and become close to us.

God went so far as to become one of us. Yes – He sent His Son as a babe to earth to live among us, teach us, befriend us and actually sacrifice Himself for us so we could be eternally with Him. Now that’s LOVE.

We need only look and His love is there.

“Cast all your anxiety upon Him for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV).

Have you asked Him to reveal Himself to you? Just say, “Jesus, reveal Yourself to me”. And He will.

Prayer:

Lord, we know you care. We see it all around us. You leave us wonderstruck. Help us to reach out and seek Your presence in our lives. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

HE CARES FOR YOU AND FOR ME

He Cares for You and for Me

He Cares for You

Yes I have changed the name of my website. God nudged me to call this site something other than my name. He led me to a passage in 1 Peter 5:7.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Perfect.

He Cares for You

This is the passage I had been searching for. God has laid it on my heart to tell others how much He cares for each of us.

My story of Tadeo Turtle is about God’s acceptance of us – just how we are. We can come to Him and be ourselves – no put-ons; no bangles; no bobbles; just who He made us. You are special – He made you.

I wrote about this today at Under the Cover of Prayer. Drop over and visit.
