EXPECTATION – Five-Minute Fridays

This could have been a different post if my hand had reached into the mailbox and found a key for a package.

I put expectation, today’s word from The Gypsy Mama, right down in my list with control. I am learning, however slowly, to release control … especially when I know I can’t do anything.

This week I expected a shipment of books to arrive at least by today. Checked my mailbox a couple of minutes ago – no books. I am attending a conference – a writer’s conference – next week. I hoped to show some samples of a book I have produced; find a publisher and go from there. I have until Tuesday to get these books delivered. Not sure what will happen.

Learning – learning to let God have the problem. There is NOTHING I can do about it.

I have made the promotion materials; made some give-a-ways; made plans.

Knowing that it doesn’t matter – that God has His own plan,  that helps me to survive my “expectation” gone awry.

But to whomever reads this – I will be telling you all about it – when the books arrive. Or should I say “whenever” the books arrive.

What Christ has taught me – don’t get upset about things you cannot change. Move in one direction and if you get caught off guard, move in another direction. Remain calm through all things.

“I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world” (John 16:33 The Message).

Remaining unshakeable – keenly aware of Jesus watching over everything and God working behind the scenes, in all we do.

Around here we write for five minutes flat on Fridays. I am linking to the Gypsy Mama’sFive Minute Fridays. Today’s word is EXPECTATION.

We write because we love words and the relief it is to just write them without worrying if they’re just right or not. So we take five minutes on Friday and write like we used to run when we were kids.

On Fridays we write with gusto, unselfconscious and flat-out.

What can you write in five minutes flat? {—> click to tweet}.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community.

OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes on: EXPECTATION

Simply Saturday – Grateful

Once again I am tagging on to The Gypsy Mama. Today her word is grateful. Five minutes – here I go.

This week has been filled with blessings. My daughter and her two children were here (4 and 2). I ran a vacation Bible School called the VIBE (Ventures in Biblical Education). We had two fantastic leaders from our Presbytery and 16 registered children.

What fun! What excitement! What sweet children!

My body is in recovery mode today. I am a Grandma; running up and down stairs; doing jumping jacks and sitting on the floor – those were some of my activities.

It may take me a couple of days to recover but what a wonderful week.

The next week will be filled with planning for my mission trip to Poland with International Messengers. For two weeks we will be over in Poland to visit and teach English. Once again I am looking after the children ages 4-12.

Grace and Gene Fox are in Romania at the moment, before they meet us in Poland. What a wonderful team to work with. She writes in her blog about her reflections on her trip to Romania.

I am grateful that God gave me the gifts and passion to do this. I am grateful He gives me the strength and health to physically be able to work with children.

Counting my blessings and being grateful each day as God leads and guides me. I would appreciate any prayers for this trip.

Your turn. Write a comment or post on being grateful. You can link to Gypsy Mama – here.
