Creative Tuesdays – How to give the impression of stained glass using watercolour batik?
Michael is back from Creative Tuesdays – with a challenge of stained glass. I decided to try a watercolour batik version.
I haven’t done a watercolour batik for a number of months (6?). So here is my Creative Tuesday’s submission for stained glass – Shatter the Glass Ceiling.
The Word became flesh and He made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only Son, Who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
As I repeat this verse over and over and try to get it into my memory banks, I think of the amazing coming down of Jesus.
Here is a video, Song of Hope, God of Heaven come down.
It reminds me that our God of heaven came down – in the form of a baby. Jesus – human and divine. Awesome to know. The Incarnation. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

Christmas is over but the New Year begins. As one character in the movie War Room asked, “Are you going to be lukewarm, cold or hot for God?”
I want to be on fire for HIm.

A stained glass look using watercolour batik for John 1:14 (tweet this).
Janis, I’m going to say that I feel this is one of your best contributions yet. I love the affect of the background colour and how they lay down on the batik. Never heard of this type of art before but works really well for stained glass theme.
the scripture verse remind me of my word for the year (2015) as I described on my won blog. The incarnation is radiant indeed! 🙂
Happy new year to you.
BTW, left you a comment on the side bar issue over on CT in case you missed it.
Thank you for your CT contribution. Mine will be up next Tuesday.
Michael,
I guess you can tell that I love watercolour batik and certainly felt inspired to draw and paint this. I remember your 2015 word – Radiant. Are you looking for a word for 2016? I am still praying for this. Some ideas but haven’t really pinned it down.
This is such a great group. Thanks so much for being our leader.
I am working to see if I can fix my link on your page.
Blessings and Happy New Year,
Janis
Janis your piece is so lovely, everyone’s doing such great work with this theme!
Christine,
I can’t wait to see the rest of the artwork. Thanks.
Blessings,
Janis
This is beautiful Janis. It would make a lovely Christmas Card. Maybe next year? You are a very talented artist in may different forms. Always love how you put Scripture to your work as that brings pleasure to us, and glory to the Father.
Happy New Year.
Wanda,
Thank you so much. I feel very much like a beginner but love to see colours go on paper. As with everything I guess, I get better with practice (and inspiration from God too). I love painting what I read in Scripture. Have you tried Bible journalling. We are learning a bit about that on my Facebook Group. If you are interested I can send you the link.
Blessings,
Janis
Janis, I have never heard of watercolour batik before, only in relation to fabric. This is beautiful and I love the glow and warmth that encompasses them. Such a wonderful effect.
Linda,
It is the same technique used on fabric but instead I paint on rice paper. I use hot wax after each layer, then at the end I use an iron to get rid of the wax (through layers of newspaper).
Thank you,
Janis
Janis, awesome stained glass batik! The painting looks like stained glass and a perfect piece to celebrate our Lord. Keep at it. 🙂
Tracy,
When I saw that the prompt was “stained glass” I immediately thought of trying my Batik watercolour. It lends itself nicely to the black lines as in stained glass.
Thank you.
Blessings,
Janis
