Sunday Stillness – What is very small with no king but great power?

Sunday Stillness – What is very small with no king but has great power?

In order to answer that question we need to read Proverbs 30:24-27

Sketch from Adam’s Animals by Kimberley Payne. Sketch by Janis Cox.

Four things on earth are small,
    yet they are extremely wise:
 Ants are creatures of little strength,
    yet they store up their food in the summer;
hyraxes are creatures of little power,
    yet they make their home in the crags;
locusts have no king,
    yet they advance together in ranks;

They may be small without a king but locusts have great power.  Joel 2 is called an Army of locusts.

With a noise like that of chariots, they leap over the mountaintops. Like a crackling fire consuming stubble, like a mighty army draw up for battle (Joel 2:5, NIV).

That is a mighty army – and we, as God’s army, could work like that; small feeble people working together for the glory of God. The only difference I can see is that we serve a mighty God – our Lord and King – Jesus.

  1. I saw your book on another blogger’s site last week. I didn’t realize you were the author until I found your linky party via another person’s blog. How we all are connected. Thanks for hosting your party. Some great reads and spiritua reminders this week. Have a blessed weekend.

  2. May God give us the grace to overcome our differences and work together to serve Him! Love your insights from the animals in Scripture. Thanks for hosting and God bless!

  3. Yes, I always think of the locusts when I teach about the book of Joel. Isn’t it good of God to use his creatures as object lessons for traits he wants to put on display?

  4. Jason,
    Very weak this week. lol:) With grandbabies and daughter. Whew! I’m beat but God is faithful – still feeling good.
    Blessings,
    Janis

I love to connect with you.
