Glorify God!

Spiritual attack is exhausting and destructive, if permitted to succeed. You know what I mean: the times when thoughts stray under dark clouds and create despair. All attempts to lift your thinking fail, and you wallow in self-pity focusing upon the circumstances that stole your joy. The effort to look beyond the situation proves too enormous and so, you choose to stay in your lonely place: in the doldrums!
Retreating from people and the world with only, ‘leave me alone’ leaving your lips, is not a good place to be. I speak from experience, because I am notorious for retreating when times get tough. I need quiet in order to formulate resolutions – also, to lick my wounds.
Where is God when the blues hit?
What happened to our zest for living, or at least our positive attitude?
Oh, God is still where He always was and is: the only thing keeping Him distant from us is our attitude! The stealer of joy, the enemy has us in his grips and we are allowing it to happen. God never leaves us – we choose to leave Him.
It is so easy to slide into negative thinking, when life or poor health or work challenges throw a curve-ball, yet that is instinctively where we go in our human-ness.
Psalm 18 suggests a better route in which to channel our thinking.
‘I will love You Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy of be praised;so shall I be saved from my enemies’. (Psalm 18: 1-3 NKJV)
And so, when events in life or spiteful thoughts fill our head, let us decide to look beyond the present turmoil and focus on a good outcome. God will help us, but we have to ask Him.
Prayer:
Abba, help us out of the murky darkness, when our thoughts are under attack. Please, remind us of Your everlasting and all enduring Love. Give us the strength and determination to move forward and upward in hope, as we look for, reach for, find and glorify You! Amen.
