REAL – Five Minute Fridays

Real

The reality of writing this on Saturday morning is – I got busy. That’s the truth. So this morning I wrote on my little IPOD which is not an easy task. Here is what I wrote.

As I learned what Christ meant to me, my old self started to slip away. I found new friends who were interested in the real me.

One friend, Deb, led a number of Bible studies which showed me to look at myself through God’s eyes. It wasn’t pretty. But I tried hard and asked God to keep revealing the things He didn’t like. He did – and I started to change.

One book we studied was called The Real You, by Bill Hybels. I don’t remember each study I have taken over the years but this one stuck in my mind because it made quite an impact. I saw things in me that needed changing. And so began the transformation.

I started to write poems to help with my learning and I wrote acronyms, too. One acronym was R.E.A.L.

Release Everything (to God) And Live.

I even made fridge magnets with these acronyms. And I can’t even find one magnet to show you. That’s funny.

Deb started a women’s ministry with Michelle and called it Authentic Women of Faith. We had some wonderful conferences together.

Sadly Deb passed away – but she was the real thing and I miss her very much especially at this time of year – around my birthday. She always remembered to send me a card.

Real is a very special word for me.

I could probably write a book on this word, but my 5 minutes are up.

What do you think of when you hear the word – REAL

If you want to join The Gypsy Mama in her Five Minute Fridays read below.

Here are the rules:

Around here we write for five minutes flat on Fridays.

We write because we love words and the relief it is to just write them without worrying if they’re just right or not. So we take five minutes on Friday and write like we used to run when we were kids.

On Fridays we write like we believe we can fly. Won’t you join us? (<—Tweet this!)

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Please visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments.

  1. Wow! that’s a great 5-minutes-worth of good writing and a significant message, Jan.

In consideration of your late friend, Deb:

Heaven alone knows what we owe to the input of others in our lives and our spiritual pilgrimage.
We do know that they will be rewarded.
    Peter.

    1. Thanks Peter,
Yes, God put her in my path – learned much from her. Awesome woman of faith. I like the push to write in 5 minutes – takes away the procrastination that I feel when I want to write.
      Blessings,
      Jan

  2. I really like your acronym for REAL. I’m going to remember that. What a great reminder. On our own we have no power, but in Christ and Him working us He buffs out those things in our character that are not pleasing to Him. I pray that you take comfort that one day you will see your friend Deb again.

    1. Yes, that is the best thing – to know that I will see Deb again. I think losing falsehood is freeing to our souls. Be who you are in Christ. Learn, study and live to be more like Him. Thanks for visiting.
      Blessings
      Jan

I love to connect with you.
